Two quick follow up points to Mister Mix’s post this morning about Jared Polis commuting the sentence of Tina Peters.
Point #1. As the article in Mister Mix’s post pointed out, Polis said he commuted the sentence “because he felt she was oversentenced for expressing inaccurate, but constitutionally protected views”. This is obvious BS from Polis. MM hits the mark: “Polis — a clown, a fool — is so eager to suck up to Trump that he rushed out Peters’ clemency with the rest of those he announced yesterday.”
Semi-rhetorical questions: Does Polis think that Peters and MAGA will thank him or suddenly back him? That Trump will treat him better? Trump is a bully; bullies pounce on perceived weakness. Remember, #ETTD. Polis will gain nothing from this with his supporters or his opponents. We may never truly know what Polis’ motivation was, but I think we can safely say - as Mister Mix so clearly did - that Polis is a clown and a fool. If I may, I’ll add “idiot” as well.
Point #2. I wrote a post back in January titled: Laws Without Consequences. In it, I wrote, “Until there are meaningful consequences for individuals both inside and outside government - both financial AND involving incarceration - written into laws (especially laws that apply to elected officials), laws will continue to be broken with impunity. Maybe I’m nuts, but I fail to understand how a law can be passed without meaningful consequences for breaking it.”
Furthermore, in my post yesterday about the DNC “autopsy” that seemingly never really was, I wrote. “…Democrats either didn’t understand, or couldn’t acknowledge, the social/political dynamics currently engulfing our country. Simply put, our current societal structure – economically, socially and culturally – is not working for most people. Flaherty is right. In many ways it’s not a right/left thing. It’s a have/have not thing.” Part of the have/have not thing is the lack of accountability and consequences for the “elites”. People - rightly - perceive that here are two sets of rules; one set for the wealthy, politically and personally connected, and another set for the rest of us. As the late, great comedian George Carlin put it, “It’s a Big Club and you ain’t in it!” It’s corruption and corrupting, plain and simple.
This two-tiered society is the reason people are fed up. And it’s both sides - although those sides have very different viewpoints on why and who to blame. It’s the reason we have Trump. It’s the reason Democrats are overwhelmingly viewed as “weak” no matter one’s political leaning. It’s a wide-open opportunity for the party or candidates or elected officials who can convince the public (get inside the Circle of TrustTM) that they “get it” and will genuinely do something about it.
A craven Polis wants to be in “The Club”. Instead, he’ll end up alienating everyone. And he’s blind to this dynamic, as are too many Democrats.
Pathetic.
