When They Fight, They Fight
Drama leads the news
I have a reprieve from my family obligations, so I’ll be around. Long story, very boring.
Anyway, I was watching the news with my old man last night and the Trump/Musk drama led ABC Nightly News. I don’t know if anyone under 70 watches that, but from the perspective of someone who wants the average American to have a basic understanding of our common disaster, it was a decent story. It contrasted Elon’s worry about the deficit with the fact that millions will lose their insurance (Medicaid) if the bill goes through. Every second that Elon is on the TV is bad for Trump, so that’s good.
What’s bad about it is that it’s all a bunch of low-grade theater. Elon and Trump were never best buds, they’re not really enemies now, but both of them are acting in what they perceive to be their best interests. Elon’s investors are getting sick of him fucking the dog in DC when his supposed magic touch isn’t being used to guide his companies. Nevermind that the current bad state of his companies is the result of decisions that he made long before he was Dogefather. Tesla is a prime example. Similarly, Trump has been shitting multiple beds in DC, and if he and his minions can make Elon the scapegoat for that, that’s fine with them. Scrapping Elon’s pick for NASA administrator because of the unforgivable sin of donating to Democrats is an example of the meaningless dramatics that characterizes the Trump Administration. Wake me up when someone talks about cancelling the government contracts that line Elon’s pockets. Until then, this is a sideshow.
One of the things Trump and his minions are smart about is generating pointless drama that will lead the news. Mission accomplished in this case.
This isn’t the best recording of a really good song (another example of learning more from a three minute record than I ever learned in school) but it looks like a fun show. One of the weird things about post-COVID is that I really don’t miss going to the movies (I did so for the first time in almost five years a couple of months ago). But as soon as it was safe to go, we saw live music.
