Taking a weekend respite with visiting family.

Bonus photo of a recent visitor - a true “mangy” moose (they shed their winter coat in the spring AND they get attacked buy ticks - moose can have as many as 20,000 ticks on them in the springtime)…

Please protect yourselves people! As someone who has suffered off and on for decades with all 3 stages of Lyme and coinfection(s), I urge you to take it seriously. May is Lyme awareness month.

Not everyone gets a rash! I first got sick after a trip to Europe as a teen and our USA testing did not pick it up. I had additional bites in PA & Texas that did leave a rash, and I had two heart attacks in my late 30s due to it, as well as many other weird and debilitating symptoms that still come and go, despite years trying to treat it (I eventually gave up). I have Acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans, but almost no American doctors even know what that is.

Years wasted in pain, flu-like fevers & brain fog & other horrid neuro symptoms, horrible fatigue, etc. - don't mess around please if you get a bite. Two weeks of prophylactic doxy, not 24 hours!

The good news (if it is good) is that the kind of ticks that are affecting Joe's mangy moose aren't those little tiny pinpoint size ticks that you guys out East have. They're bigger and they carry Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever if they carry any disease.

When I moved East and learned about the tiny ticks, my tick checks went into overdrive. At least you can see the Western ticks.

We also have RMSF incidents on the East Coast, though rarely. Johns Hopkins has a good treatment center for tick borne diseases.

Mercifully, the tick situation out West is very different than back East. The differences in flora and fauna from coast to coast are really striking.
