I’m still living in two places, both OH and MI, so I’ve been following politics in both states. I’m also studying Danish with the hope I can have some simple conversation with my 4-year-old Danish granddaughter when we go back to Copenhagen in February. She’s cute when my husband tries to stutter out some Danish - polite and well raised so she doesn’t laugh at the old man, she just repeats the word he’s trying to pronounce under her breath.
Back to Ohio:
Zoom out: Ramaswamy will be the featured speaker at a Montana State University event being held by Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk co-founded.
According to his prepared remarks, Ramaswamy will say the conservative moment is at a "fork in the road" and urge them to abandon its fixation on "owning the libs" in favor of a less overtly confrontational posture.
"We can still stand for truth, while viewing those who believe in falsehoods not as our enemies who must be vanquished, but instead as our fellow citizens who have lost their way and must be shown the light," Ramaswamy will say.
"Not to berate them, embarrass them, and banish them -- but to pray for them, to talk to them, and to persuade them," he will add.
Zoom in: Ramaswamy, who became a prominent Trump supporter after waging an unsuccessful 2024 GOP primary campaign, also plans to criticize the administration for threatening media outlets deemed unfriendly.
Ramaswamy is between 5 and 10 points ahead of Dr. Amy Acton, the Democrat so this is less a concession or noble stand and more an effort to run up the score. Anyone who analyzes this race based completely on their belief that “MAGA won’t vote for an Indian American” are willfully ignoring all the far Right Indian Americans in the Trump Administration and GOP politics who have done very, very well under MAGA.
Ohio is gerrymandered to death and soon to become a deliberately engineered one party state. The 45% or so of people in this state who are not Republicans will have zero representation and zero power - Ramaswamy, Mike DeWine, and Mike DeWine’s son on the Ohio Supreme Court made sure of it.
So the GOP in Ohio can now throw the libs a patronizing bone - they know we’ll have one party, wholly corrupt rule indefinitely. It’s nice they’re going to “pray for us” though. I’d prefer they just stop stealing and lying instead of praying for me, but then I’m a heathen.
