I’m back in the little town where I grew up without my wife, who’s shepherding a bunch of 80+-year-old women to a family event in the East. I really appreciate that I can be away from the comments here and nothing ugly happens. So, thanks, sincerely. I want to write about two comments in yesterday’s post about Carney.

First, Sepideh posted a link to a video interview between Pod Save America host Dan Pfeiffer and Danielle Butterfield, Executive Director of Priorities USA, a Democratic PAC. This woman is a smart marketer. Priorities USA is a Presidential PAC, but she’s doing research now on how to reach people who don’t care about politics, specifically on social media platforms. It’s hard to summarize her thoughts, because she’s clearly done a ton of research that has nothing to do with the simpleton air-bombing-on-broadcast-TV mentality that we’ve seen on display from (mostly) losing candidates in primaries this year. I want to drill in on what she said in later posts here, but here’s the video for the true nerds in the audience. Of all the Pod bros, Pfeiffer and Jon Lovett are the best (tallest skyscraper in Omaha, I realize): Pfeiffer because he’s a smart, data-driven messaging guy, and Lovett because he’s a gay man who’s married to a trans person.

I hope I’m not stepping on a post Kay wants to write, but she made a point that I agree with: there’s a group of elected Democrats who are happy with the Iran War. They think they could do it better, but overall they know that the donors who they want to court are happy to see Iran get attacked. Kay’s right, and I want to write something about it.

I’m not a military expert, but like everyone else on reading this blog, the majority of my taxes have gone to fund the US military. I’m sure there’s a story that a (hopefully) small group of Democrats can tell about how a Democratic President and Congress could prosecute the Iran war better than Trump, but that’s bullshit.

Trump could have planned the logistics of the Iran war better — he could have pre-positioned more supplies so sailors on the Abraham Lincoln wouldn’t be short of food, toilet paper and tampons. Overall, though, the US military have prosecuted the war that they’ve planned for decades. It’s been a failure.

Bipartisan legislation has been pouring billions of dollars into weapons for the war that military contractors have wanted to fight: one that pitted our million dollar weapons against the other side’s million dollar weapons. Instead, we’re using our million dollar missiles to shoot down Iran’s $20K drones. We’re also using our million dollar standoff weapons to precision target different parts of Iranian infrastructure. We’re running out of all of those expensive weapons, even though we have a lot of less expensive weapons that we could use. Those can’t be used because they would subject our pilots to being shot down, something that both Republicans and Democrats can’t handle, politically.

So, to put it in simple terms, the Democrats who are happy to stand in the shadow of Trump’s war and hope that he fucks up while achieving the objective they want are living in a dream world. They think being in the group who cheers on the playground bully beating up the kid nobody likes is a good thing. I’m here to tell you it’s not a good place to be, and their dreamworld is just about to end.
