Trump's Parade Will Never Top This

Mexico has a small military but man do they love a parade. Also, the judicial election.

With Trump’s military parade on the way, I just want to note that Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum will have dozens better this year, without trying very hard. Exhibit A:

Here’s the Instagram post of the Cinco de Mayo parade. It’s an important holiday, but by no means the biggest holiday in Mexico. Trump can call his little celebration a real parade when he has falcons, women in peacock headdresses, special forces in ghillie suits, and troops in a (by US standards) a crazy variety of uniforms. Plus, dogs.

Anyway, Mexico had a judicial election last week. They elected every judge from magistrate to Supreme Court. They had about 13% turnout, so mixed reviews on that. But the judiciary in Mexico was notoriously corrupt and nepotistic. The Mexican Supreme Court now has a Chief Justice who is an indigenous person from Oaxaca. The court is also 5-4 Male-Female, by law.

The elections were declared last year by AMLO right before his six-year term ended, and they are widely seen as a win for the ruling Morena party, since most of those elected were at least sympathetic to the goals of Morena. There’s some turmoil about the elections — there was a boycott, there were cheat sheets, etc.

Claudia is also having some issues with teachers’ unions. The less radical union took the 10% pay hike, the more radical one is on strike and firebombed the rival union’s headquarters. Overall, though, her approval is between 75-80% in recent polls.

That all said, when Trump does something like this, then that’s a real parade:
