Trump: Best President or Bestest President?
It would be funny if it weren't so real
Some new regs for government hiring just dropped:
“How would you help advance the president’s executive orders and policy priorities in this role?” asks one of four essay questions that job seekers must answer if they are seeking any federal position GS-5 or above. “Identify one or two relevant executive orders or policy initiatives that are significant to you, and explain how you would help implement them if hired.” […]
The plan calls on agencies to end any use of “racial quotas and preferences” in the federal hiring process, including usage of demographic statistics in hiring, recruiting, retention and promotion decisions. And it requires agencies to cease collecting and disseminating statistics “regarding the composition of the agency’s workforce based on race, sex, color, religion or national origin.”
It’s just clownishly stupid, and there will probably be a court order to get stay or reverse the policy, but this is just another example of how everyone who opposes Trump needs to come to the table with a plan to back this shit out. I’m sure there are plenty of pollsters lining up to say that Americans really don’t care about stuff like this, only Medicaid and Social Security, but come on. This is banana republic shit.
It’s possible to sound like a real stiff when you defend a certain kind of government regulations. It may be obvious to us that government employees should be chosen by an apolitical process, but it’s easy to spin this as “Trump just hiring people who will carry out his policies.” “You’re just trying to make it harder to hire good employees instead of lazy, shiftless bureaucrats.”
Instead of running away from this nonsense, we need to meet it head on and fight. But of course that’s true about all of the shit that’s flooding the zone. This one isn’t an easy layup, politically, but it’s critical if we’re ever going to make the trip back from being a failed state.
