I’m between family events, and I wanted to pre-write a quick post about today’s election.

Recent polls notwithstanding, most of the races we’re excited about are within the margin of error. So one possible outcome tonight is that we get a couple of Senate seats, barely take the House, and maybe pick up a governor’s seat or two. Another outcome is a blue tsunami, running the board. Either outcome is possible.

But no matter what happens, just think back to the 2025 nonsense about the supposed historical political re-alignment that occurred when Trump beat Kamala Harris by a tiny margin. No matter what happens tonight, we all know that’s not true. Trump’s juice is gone — he had some carnival barker skills, but now he’s standing in front of the reflecting pool talking about pool maintenance as his closing message for the 2026 mid-terms. Republican candidates in red states are showing their asses left and right, one example being the case of Roger Marshall that Joe wrote about yesterday.

So no matter what happens tonight, as long as Democrats hold the House, we have the power to check Trump. Everything over and above that is gravy. And I’m hoping for a lot of gravy.

We don't even start counting until Friday in this gawdfersaken backwater

"The Board of Elections will meet in the Elections Office Tabulation Room at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2026 to begin the official computation and canvassing of the votes cast from the November 3, 2026 General Election."

Also this shit the bed notice was issued yesterday

"Union County, PA has been informed that duplicate mail-in ballots were sent to some Union County voters. The issue has been addressed with the third-party vendor, who mistakenly printed and sent the duplicate ballots. Please know that the State Uniform Registry of Electors (SURE) system ensures that only one ballot per legally registered voter will be processed and counted. It is impossible to accept two ballots under a single voter name. Therefore, if you receive a duplicate ballot, you are encouraged to destroy the second ballot as it cannot be voted. Any questions can be directed to the Union County Elections Office"

I wonder if the County still has to pay for all of the printing, whaddya think. My guess is they paid in advance and will receive nothing back for invalid ballots.

Maybe it'll be such a landslide victory that my County's shenanigans won't matter one whit.

As expected here is a headline seen at Axios:

Democrats could learn wrong message from a blowout victory

It's not worth reading. With a few tweaks this could have been written at any time over the last 35 years.

I voted by mail as soon as I got my ballot. In MA you can check your ballot status at the SOS website. Confirmed by ballot was accepted. Then I set about to pester all friends and families to vote early or get that ballot mailed in. We have strategically placed drop boxes in almost every town in Massachusetts where you can drop your ballot if you don't want to risk sending the ballot by mail.

We should have most of the outcomes settled well before midnight EST. The polls in Alaska don't close until 1 AM EST so that result may not be known until well after people in the eastern half of the country have gone to bed.

The only shocking result will be if the Democrats don't take back the House.

Mark Jacob yesterday

"Get set to hear Trump use the word “rigged” a lot if Republicans lose the midterms. And remember he’s made similar complaints about the Emmys, the Nobel Prize, his felony convictions, climate change, the World Cup, polls, Hillary's emails, jobless numbers and more. Up and at 'em, hoping to wrest the Commonwealth of PA legislature out of Rethuglican clutches.

"The commonwealth is currently one of just four states with a divided legislature, as Democrats hold the House and Republicans the Senate. Democrats also hold just a three-member majority in the lower chamber, a razor-thin margin that requires policy buy-in from centrist Democrats hailing from gas-rich communities."

We're about to lose a lion in Rep. Vitali

"For the past 34 years, no one in the state legislature has spoken out more consistently or forcefully for fossil fuel regulation or clean energy alternatives in Pennsylvania, even as political polarization and the rise of the gas industry made those positions increasingly embattled. Vitali was the first Pennsylvania lawmaker to introduce climate change legislation and a chief advocate pushing for a "severance" tax on gas drilling in the state during the fracking boom."

The winner of that primary uses the word bipartisan on her website, making my Spidey senses tingle. Gah.
