This Will End Badly

El Paso

US authorities have abruptly closed the airspace around El Paso international airport in Texas for 10 days for “special security reasons”, shutting off the skies for all aircraft in an area along the border with Mexico.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) posted the “temporary flight restriction” notice on its website late on Tuesday, stating that a 10-nautical-mile circle up to 18,000ft would be off limits for all commercial, cargo and general aviation flights.

This was done abruptly, with no notice to Members of Congress in the area. I read that a Southwest flight ended up being grounded in El Paso because it had landed before the closure took effect, but was ready to take off after the closure.

I’m sure Trump, Miller, Hegseth and the rest of these geniuses think they’ll do a little droning, exchange high-fives, and move on to the next target in the rollicking shitshow that is the Trump Administration.

If so, they deeply misjudge Mexico. President Claudia Sheinbaum hammers away on Mexican sovereignty, and she’s challenged constantly in her press conferences when there’s even a hint that the US might have intervened and attacked a lab or cartel hotspot. There are many things that Mexico can do to make things uncomfortable for Americans — they are our #1 trading partner.

Mexico is not Venezuela.
