When you are used to slam-dunk elections where you regularly win at least 60% of the vote, powered by Fox News and some negative ads, the world comes at you fast. In the last couple of days, we’ve seen a lot of this.
First, there was a lot of noise on Bluesky yesterday about a dumb dumb named Sen Eric Schmitt (R-Misery), who tried to spin a conspiracy theory about Jack Smith going to Atlanta to watch a Hawks basketball game while secretly meeting with Fani Willis to coordinate with her on her prosecution of voter fraud in Atlanta. The only problem was that Smith actually went to see the Iowa Hawkeyes womens’ basketball team when they played Maryland, since Caitlin Clark was playing. The video of this stupidity below. So, this guy Schmitt is certainly a shithead, but the real question is why in the hell are they bringing Jack Smith in front of a committee a month before the election? Only the most MAGA-pilled Fox-brained ding-dong would think that this would be a good time to remind everyone of Trump’s crimes that Smith was investigating. This is the product of panic, nothing more. Moreover, if a Democrat had mixed up the names of two sports teams in two totally different leagues, Republicans would be calling for the death penalty.
In addition to panic, Republicans just have a bunch of really bad candidates who never have to run a real campaign. Here’s exhibit A, Ken Paxton:
Texas Attorney General and Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton once again proved on Monday that he is a generationally bad candidate when he defended a sweetheart deal he gave to a pedophile charged with repeated sexual abuse of a third-grade boy.
The deal Paxton made with Adam Hoffman—who was represented by the donor at the center of Paxton’s impeachment scandal—has been a persistent line of attack against Paxton in the Texas Senate contest.
In the primary, Sen. John Cornyn slammed Paxton for the deal, in which Paxton agreed to let Hoffman serve just one day in prison in exchange for a guilty plea to lesser charges.
But Paxton defended the case at an event in Texas hosted by the United States Hispanic Business Council.
“The criticism has been that I let a child predator out after one day. Well guess what? They served 60 days,” Paxton said.
Check and mate, libtards!
Moving on to a few others, there’s Sen Roger Marshall, who’s running against a Democratic megachurch minister named Adam Hamilton (a unicorn if there ever was one). Marshall is an OB/GYN (those poor women) who sends the debt collectors out to get $50 debts, and because Kansas, he’s somehow able to get those women arrested. Hamilton put out an attack ad, and Marshall sued him quibbling over the details, and therefore drawing even more free publicity to the whole issue, like the dumbshit he is. TPM also has the details of former Nebraska Gov Pete Ricketts’ pardon of a registered sex offender who had violently raped a woman in the 90s. The guy had already gotten out of prison, but the pardon takes him off the sex offender list and allows him his god-given right to carry a firearm.
Then there’s Sherrod Brown’s ad showing John Husted mansplaining how food stamps make the poors forget how money works. It starts with a guy saying “listen to this shit” and ends with a woman saying “fuck that.”
There are many others, but you get the picture. Two points:
Republicans run terrible candidates who say and do horrible things, constantly. Democrats shouldn’t be afraid of pointing this out, but in general, we don’t.
Because Democrats don’t have their own media operation, the only time these creepy, stupid and ignorant fools are exposed is during the last few months of the campaign when we spin up our campaign ad operations. For the other 18 or so months when the campaigns aren’t running, crickets.
