Royce White is a Republican candidate for Senate in Minnesota and he’s out to totally own the libs:
Royce White shocked the world by announcing he wanted to enter the WNBA draft in 2027. The former NBA player has now gone a step further by buying his first wig, kickstarting what he described as his "feminine era".
White said he now identifies as a woman and should be allowed to compete in the WNBA.
"It came y'all… My 1st wig! Tomorrow I test it on the court. This is my feminine era glow up, did I slay? If y'all don't "yassss queen" you're transphobic. I really don't understand all the hatred, I just want to play some hoops with my fellow ladies.
If I’m reading this stat chart correctly, White played in three games in the 2013-2014 season for the Sacramento Kings, averaged 3 minutes in each game, didn’t start in any of them, and attempted one shot that he missed. I’m thinking a has-been who was basically a never-was won’t be picked in the WNBA draft, all politics aside.
In his personal life, White is under a no contact order because of credible threats against his ex-wife and one of their children.
The WNBA is just a constant target of conservatives. An Indiana Fever player, Sophie Cunningham, has been making a name for herself by peddling anti-trans bigotry. (That link goes to a good Oliver Willis piece about the overall conservative culture of pretending to be persecuted.)
The previous WNBA controversy was a white player getting fouled too often by black players:
Before Cunningham, the focus of conservatives’ praise and concern was the Fever’s young star guard Caitlin Clark — the all-time scoring leader in women’s or men’s Division I college basketball and, like Cunningham, a white player.
In early July, a group of 11 Republican lawmakers, led by US Rep. August Pfluger of Texas, sent a letter to WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert complaining that Clark had been “hip-checked, poked in the eye, and struck in the throat during games,” and speculating that the rough conduct “may be racially motivated.” The letter threatened to encourage federal investigations of the league and demanded “meaningful action” from the league.
I’m sure pointing out that a deep hatred of women as well as gutter racism underlies all this noise would send these assholes to their fainting couches clutching their pearls and asking their servants for the smelling salts.
This is all part of the constant shit-stirring that underlies MAGA. They’ve always got something cooking to push forward their narratives, and they’re really good at getting attention. I don’t follow the WNBA, but I’m sure there aren’t any trans players, and that black players get fouled, too. Part of this is an effort to bait Democrats to call out these clowns so they can become victims. I don’t have a smart political answer to this, other than to not run away from trans folk when asked about these stupid nontroversies (Talarico is one person who does a good job of that). Perhaps the other thing is to point out that gas is still way over $4/gallon no matter how many assholes are putting on wigs to try out for the WNBA.
