The Senate Goes Home

A mixed bag

The Senate went home without a deal to speed up confirmation of Trump nominees. Democrats had tried to get a concession out of Republicans — NIH funding and foreign aid were two possible concessions mentioned — but no deal was struck. Trump got mad at Schumer, and words were exchanged. Politico has it all here.

Here are some lowlights:

After the last few months of Trump, it’s clear that there are still plenty of Democratic Senators who don’t have the grit for a fight. Trump is trying to dismantle the role of Congress in our democracy, and all Republicans in the Senate are complicit. The least Democrats could do — and it really is the very least — would be to vote against every Trump nominee.
