- Stupidity is in the Mail
One of my favorite - and one of the most important - quotes from our Founding Fathers came from the mouth of Thomas Jefferson. He succinctly summed it all up by saying, “The best defense of democracy is an informed electorate.”
After knocking on thousands of doors in several campaigns, my estimate is that somewhere between 85%-90% of people are NOT informed.
This is our challenge.
Here’s a small current events tidbit (via Forbes) that people should know.
Several Countries Suspend Postal Shipments To The US—Here’s Why
The postal services of Mexico, India, Japan and several other countries have suspended the shipment of packages to the U.S. as a result of President Donald Trump’s tariffs and new rules implemented by his administration that end duty exemptions for lower-value shipments entering the country, known as the “de minimis” rule.
On Wednesday, Mexico joined a growing list of countries whose postal services have temporarily suspended package shipments to the U.S., and said it is engaging in dialogue with U.S. officials and “international postal organizations to define mechanisms that will allow for the orderly resumption of services.”
Earlier this week, the postal services of Australia, Taiwan and Japan also announced a halt in the shipment of packages, although this pause will not impact letters, documents and postcards.
A week earlier, India, the U.K. and dozens of European Union members—including France, Germany and Italy—announced a similar pause in shipments.
Several other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including South Korea and Singapore also halted shipments last week.
So tariffs have completely idiotic and avoidable consequences. Who could’ve known? And how stupid are the people now running our country (rhetorical questions everyone - no need to provide me with a pithy response 😇).
The question is how we as an opposition movement find ways to inform voters about seemingly small items like this that will absolutely impact people’s loves. I’m sure there is no one-size-fits-all answer, but if I or anyone else had THE answer, we’d have a superpower that would be priceless.
