Something's happening

So as I mentioned yesterday, I’m on a county Democratic committee so went to our regular monthly meeting last night.

We had four times our usual attendance. I have not worked on D politics with any of these people at any time in the last 25 years. They’re meeting OUTSIDE our (official) meeting at two separate locations, at a library and a meeting room at a firehouse. They didn’t know what to do or who to contact so they just started up two new groups to talk about, well, you know…the horrors that are occurring.

I’ll attend their two new meetings - both on Thursday, one morning, one evening and let you know what I hear, but it’s exciting and really hopeful to see this much activity in a 75% Trump county in rural Ohio. I don’t know if they’re Democrats but they’re definitely anti Trump and anti GOP Congress.

I haven’t felt this hopeful in months - we may get our mass pro democracy movement after all.

Both my sisters are going to a meeting this afternoon of concerned women in our small city. The group spontaneously came together as a result of conversations among some very concerned people. They are not affiliated with any organized group at this point, just worried sick about what's happening.

I moved to a trumpy town but I do have a friend who is active in the County Dems. The chair is the person who posted that the committee wouldn’t take place in protests so I’m not super optimistic about that group.

I ran a successful woman to woman house party campaign in 2012. Because the Obama campaign didn’t hire much staff or open offices, the house parties became volunteer phone banks. They were incredibly effective, so much so that the Obama campaign pulled leadership and volunteers out of Southern Maine to campaign in NH.

I think I’m going to ask the committee if I could get a list of registered dems in my town and start having house parties. We need to start now because we have gubernatorial and senate elections in 2026 and CD 2 is always a slog.

This kind of organization is very effective. I wonder why the chair had to go out of his/her way to say that they wouldn't participate in protests? Not smart to lock yourself in like that, especially in this environment.

They pulled the permit because they had concern about infiltration by bad actors. The march took place anyway without incident.

I do miss it being fun! One of the young volunteers I helped run for office is now our Senate President. She started a youth caucus in the legislature.
