The Democratic Party's latest approval ratings hit record lows in a pair of polls on Sunday, coming after a bruising 2024 election for the party in which it lost control of the White House and Senate.
An NBC News poll found 27% of registered voters say they view the party favorably − the lowest favorability rating for Democrats in NBC polls going back to 1990. Only 7% of survey respondents said they said they have a "very positive" view of the party.
Another poll released by CNN similarly found 29% of voters view Democrats in a positive light, a low in CNN's polling since 1992. Among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents, 63% said they have a favorable view of the party.
Some very concerning polling.
Here’s the thing. As a county Party Democratic official this upsets me, not so much for the fact that we can’t seem to capitalize at all on Trump’s low approval numbers but on behalf of the volunteers and small donors I have come to know and, yes, LOVE during thirty years of this. This Party is underperforming, and it’s not because of a lack of effort or God knows, MONEY contributed by the grass roots base of the Party. Whoever is running this fucking thing needs to do a top down audit and find out why all the campaign and strategy people we’re paying literally billions of dollars to return absolutely no value.
This unhappiness is showing up everywhere, by the way. Tonight I will attend our County Party meeting and there we will vote on a new chair. We’re voting on a new chair because while we all liked our chair of the last ten years, we have gone from 45% of the County voting D to 25% of the County voting D, and he has to be replaced with that performance. The former chair had the grace and humility to step down so we didn’t have a bloody battle so our new chair will be elected unanimously.
I plan to shut up and listen to the new group, because I’m in the old group, which means I have been partly in charge during this record of failure and I take responsibility for that. Time to switch this up. I just hope they succeed where we failed.
