Nothing too heavy for a Sunday morning, but perhaps a mind boggling and incredibly ridiculous story that represe Trumpism in a nutshell.

I’ll start by working this one backwards. Here is the end (presumably, although the farce could get even weirder):

Yes - Dana White. Double college dropout, former boxing gym owner and current CEO of the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC). That Dana White.

Yesterday, Trump asked that Dana White to be his new Press Secretary, following in the illustrious footsteps of 5-day wunderkind Katie Zacharia.

OK. Not a conventional choice. Not a smart choice. Actually, an amazingly ignorant and stupid choice.

Just what we’ve come to expect from Trump, right?!

Here is where it gets truly unbelievable, even for the dumbest (yes - with a “b”) President in the history of our democracy republic.

It seems as if someone suggested that Trump nominate Heritage Foundation and Fox News contributor Dana White to assume the vacant Press Secretary role. This Dana White:

O.M.G.

Let’s recap all the ways this represents the core essence of Trumpism:

Lazy Ignorance. Trump assumed whoever commended Dana White was actually recommending the CEO of the UFC as Press Secretary.

Incompetence. Trump did zero research (and obviously received no informative input from his cowardly team) on the recommended Dana White and simply confused her with his buddy Dana White.

Stupidity. Trump then actually offered the position to his completely unqualified buddy Dana White.

Bullshit. From CNN, “While one aide said Trump was joking about the offer, the president’s post came as he’s continued to search for a new press secretary following Karoline Leavitt’s departure and Katie Zacharia’s five-day stint in the role.”

Trump. Doesn’t. Do. Jokes.

Amateur Hour. Not only did none of Trumps sycophantic appointees deign to tell Trump that he mixed things up, they actually tweeted that they loved the idea: “"Hell yeah! Do it, @DanaWhite!" White House communications director Steven Cheung posted on X, as he shared the president's message.”

Thankfully, UFC Dana White, possessing common sense and intelligence so sorely lacking in our current President, decided to turn down the offer from Trump.

Only 804 more days until we swear in a Democratic President of the United States. It’s only going to get weirder and worse 🤦🏻‍♂️

“Dad, get me out of this.”

Part 1 (part 2 in comments) I'm hesitant to post a FB link since I know how a lot of us feel about Meta. I'm still on FB w/a very small circle of old friends from all over the country. Would be hard for any of us to keep up w/one another w/o it. I make no apologies so I trust you won't @ me like some blogs do.😉😉 FB is not the point of my comment.

W/that said, Brett Kenyon (transplant to MS from Pittsburgh) is very good on all things MS. As I always say it's good sometimes to have an outsider looking in. He loves MS & the music culture/history. That's how I got on to following him. (MS a very beautiful and unique state. Yes, I've been down to the crossroads and Highway 61. IYKYK. I danced and knocked back a few cold ones at Morgan Freeman's place in Clarksdale. Hit some roadhouses outside of Oxford.)

Part 2 Anyway, Brett has a very good video up explaining the recent voting issues/history, mostly starting in 2011. I hope he is on other media if you have an aversion to FB. He also goes by "Papa Mississippi."

Trust me. He's GREAT.

I didn't know until yesterday that Steven Cheung went to the WH with Susie Wiles. He's part of her inner circle. Obviously, he may be on his way out if there is a purge of her circle.

Describing the factions in the Trump WH, Maggie Haberman said on CNN that Steven Miller is “VERY close to Jared and Ivanka”. She described the new situation post wipe out to be “reverting to the mean” (Trump I) where Trump trusts only his own family and people he’s known for years. I think that’s great news. I cannot imagine two people with less understanding of ordinary MAGA (or ordinary Americans) than Jared and Ivanka.

I didn’t know that Cheung was allowed to stay after Wiles got the boot. I’m surprised.

Well, he's not a woman. I think they are rooting thru all employees to figure out who the Wiles loyalists are. So more firings down the road. Cheung's tweet or whatever we call it was a show of agreeing with Trump re Trump’s Dana White. Am I making any sense? And, who even knows what I read yesterday is correct about Cheung being a Wiles hire/loyalist? If I get a minute this AM, I will do further research.

ETA Quick Google tells me that Wiles brought Cheung on when she was managing Trump’s 2024 run. So she initially hired him back then. I suspect he is now all Trump humper now. No loyalty to SW.

Great post.

And I love Warren Zevon. I still tear up when I watch that last David Letterman appearance.

And there was a great WZ performance of LG&M on David Sanborn's old show "Night Music" with Sanborn on sax.

Philly slang fits this jawn

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Jabroni

"A slang term in professional wrestling first used by the Iron Sheik and then again later by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. It is derived from the word jobber, which is someone who routinely loses, or "does the job". The Rock says, "Know your role and shut your mouth, jabroni!"

(But the first entry there is actually the best):

"In wrestling: a jobber. In reality: Dumbass. Loser. A no good son of bitch. Talks a lot of shit but can never back it up. Calvin: Do wanna pick up some McDonald’s? Kiff: Sure gets to McDonald’s Calvin: Dude I forgot my wallet, can you pay for me? Kiff: you’re a fucking jabroni"

How bad was it for Republicans on Election Day? Roy Cooper, Jon Ossoff, and James Talarico had enough votes in the can to win before one vote was cast on election day. According to Nevada election whisperer John Ralston when early voting closed in Nevada Democrats had a 51,000 vote advantage. He said nothing could happen on election day that would change the results.

Sure people hate Trump but Stacey Abrams and Ben Wikler, among many others, have been putting in the work. It's been a years long project that is now paying off. Maybe the Dems do flip the House and Senate, but without this work it doesn't happen at this breadth and depth. Put in the work and be ready for the moment. If anything, Dems left some seats on the table. Had they invested in Florida and Louisiana we might be talking about more Democratic seats in the House and Senate.

That's partly why No Kings & their early vote protests were on my mind so much yesterday.

Also imagine if we didn't have to overcome so much gerrymandering...

Dana White is actually very smart and very savvy and wanted no part of this mess. Though honestly, and yes I'm laughing while typing this, he would actually good at it. He's smart, charismatic, good with people, and great at talking to the press. Which is exactly why he saw this was a shit sandwich and noped right out of it.

I wouldn't call it that for Dana. You have to be really into combat sports to get the differences. WWE is all bullshit and kayfabe. Boxing and MMA are not bullshit but do use hype men. More traditional arts, and a lot of those moves are banned in MMA because they will kill/cripple/maim someone don't dabble in that. So combat sports are not monolithic. Especially in practitioners. IE BJJ is heavily hype and while effective it's locked out of certain techniques. Traditional JJ is full of shit that MMA has banned because you will cripple someone for life. BJJ has hype men while JJ shuts up.

White is the product of hype culture and has marketed that to fortune. I come from a different background. At the end of the day we are all in the same gyms just different clicks. My side of the gym doesn't wear belts or show up in tap out gear and hype. Both sides of the gym consider pro wrestling fake and stupid.

I hear that, I've never been able to pay it too much attention so I don't know too much about all that, just what's been promoted for "show." Also, it's "clique" but they do like the clickbait (sorry for my pedantry).

Another factor. I box and do MMA. Dana White and combat sports do not need Donald Trump. Donald Trump needs Dana White and combat sports. That crowd is not MAGA. It's just dudes. They aren't political. They aren't really man-o-sphere either. Most just don't give a shit.

Contra what some liberals claim they aren't anti woman or incels. It's hilariously the opposite. At our gym every woman who has come into the gym ends up cheating, having an affair, and often divorced. It's a running joke in martial arts circles. These guys believe in nothing but staying in shape, getting laid, getting wasted, and making money. They have no loyalty to anything or anyone. Sure most of them voted Trump. They all think he's an idiot and don't like him though. They just think it's funny how people freak out over Trump. They're laughing at him and the people freaking out over him at the same time. Combat sports is a weird crew.

But he wasn't a martial artist. Different. Here's how it actually works. A woman and a guy come into a gym. Within minuets that guy is emasculated and tossed around like a toy in front of his woman. At that point it is pretty much over. Once she starts rolling around with the guys who just clobbered her boyfriend it's done. Hence when we see a woman join up the more crass of us joke "two weeks" comes up. Every single time it happens.

I've taught courses and I've physically trained people and I can tell you for a fact there is no easier woman on the face of the planet than one in a relationship who shows up for this. Men will do these jobs part time at shit pay because of this exact reason. I'd know I did exactly that for over five years. It's free married pussy.
