Reality check, Michigan edition

Gretchen Whitmer Has 63% Approval Rate

Though Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) drew ire from many Democrats for her willingness to work with President Trump, a new polling memo shows her with a healthy 63% job approval rating among Michigan voters.

Governor Whitmer is popular (63% positive job rating) due to great numbers among Democrats and strong ratings with Independents and Republicans. Her job rating stands at 63 Positive / 36 negative (+27), her highest rating we’ve seen since the early phases of the pandemic. This includes great ratings with: o Democrats (90% positive / 9% negative) o Independents (66% positive / 31% negative) o Republicans (35% positive / 64% negative) A majority of Democrats view her very favorably, making her the most intensely liked Democrat of any statewide officeholder.

This poll feels planted so I guess Whitmer is testing the waters for a presidential run. Still, she is quite popular - compare to Newsom at 46% and Pritzker at 50%.

For me, it’s a reminder that my personal preference for an approach to Trump may not be the best politically - Whitmer is at 90% with Michigan Democrats despite that (disastrous, IMO) appearance with Trump.

Normies aren’t like us.
