Project 2029

We need to say what we’re going to do if we get power

The mob bosses who testified before Congressional committees in the 50’s and 60’s showed more respect to committee members than Pam Bondi did yesterday. This trend will continue and worsen, especially if Democrats get control of one or both branches of Congress after the 2026 election. I’m sure many cabinet members will just ignore subpoenas. They’ll also refuse to answer questions and shit talk.

There are two questions here: what are Democrats going to do to prepare for the pushback against Congressional oversight, and what are Democrats going to do to roll back the rest of the lawless bullshit that Trump & Co have done? The first one is tactical, the second is strategic.

Unlike the Republicans, Democratic think tanks are generally issue-oriented, donor-captured and push out fairly weak white papers. Unless there’s one I don’t know about, there’s nothing comparable to the Heritage Foundation, and we certainly don’t have anything like the Project 2025 document.

We need this kind of strategy document. It needs to address things like judicial reform, rolling back the damage done by DOGE, how a Democratic Justice Department will work to prosecute Trumpian criminality, dissolving ICE, and a host of other issues.

Having this kind of document would educate voters, give our candidates something to run on, and help us hold our electeds accountable.

The lack of any kind of organized effort to create a Project 2029, for a party that is rolling in money, is an indicator of just how much work will be needed to reform the party.
