The crossed fist and thorns is the emblem of the far Left Party in Denmark, so they’re putting on this shindig at the US Embassy in Copenhagen:

I will be in Sweden on June 5th, so will not be attending but my Communist old-man Danish friend Henning is going.

I went to a party with Henning’s family. Guests included his son and daughter and their spouses and children. Henning’s children are lovely people but very conventional - one is a police officer and one works for a labor union. Labor unions are not coded “Leftist” in Denmark since just about every worker (including white collar workers) belongs to one. Both of his children have mainstream liberal Danish political views, akin to being a DSA member in the US.

I was wondering about what it must have been like growing up as a “red diaper baby” in Henning’s hard Left household, but the party was fun and I try to be a good guest and tamp down my natural inclination to start interrogating people.

I have about another month left in Copenhagen. June is the absolute best time to be here - the sun never really sets and there is a distinct intense, silvery Nordic light that I believe is created by the transition between water and sky.
