I’m speechless. I’m giddy. I’m amazed. I’m stunned. I’m pumped.

I’m writing this before all the final results are in but it’s pretty clear. The Democrats have done something historic. Texas – all of Texas. South Carolina. Iowa. Kansas for the first time since FDR was serving his first term. Ohio. Michigan. Also, I’m a little concerned about Susan Collins’ well-being 😏

Let’s celebrate for now. We’ve got the time and the reason to take a victory lap or two.

There will likely come a time when we the people have to hold the elected Democrats feet to the fire to make sure they follow through on what we the people actually want: action, not words; accountability, not elite invincibility; attacking inequality, regardless of what the billionaires and large corporations think; basic quality, affordable healthcare for all, instead of funding fat cat insurance company, and private equity, CEOs.

I’d like to add a personal note (although, to be completely clear, this isn’t about me; but all we have is our own personal frame of reference through which to view events of the day). I initially decided to run for US House in a deep red district with no major league political experience, no special political connections, and not enough personal wealth to materially make a difference in my own race. I came super close but didn’t get there. However, the desire to make a difference - at least for me - didn’t go away just because I lost an election (or two, or three). As I watch the results unfold tonight, I couldn’t be more happy for all the political newcomers who stuck their necks out to run races in what were viewed as impossibly red districts and ended up shocking the country. I know what they took on, I know what they’ve been through over the past year or so, I know the negativity they’ve faced, and I know the ups and downs. They deserve all the accolades.

Also, let’s not forget all those volunteers who gave their time and money to make this happen. Our own Kay W. deserves our unending thanks for her dedication and spirit on the ground in Michigan 👏👏👏💪

Have I said I’m emotional?

Again, Democrats still have a large fight on their hands, and we will have to make sure our elected officials have the backbone and intestinal fortitude to stand up to the mentally ill bully in the White House and remember why they were elected.

But for now, let’s savor the feeling. Let’s revel in the knowledge that enough people finally paid attention. Enough people finally recognized the corruption, malfeasance, and genuine lack of caring Trump, his cronies, and his congressional lackeys had about the general welfare of their constituents.

Oh. What. A. F^*king. Incredible. Night!

Ok - time for bed. We’ll talk more in the morning…

I can’t believe I get to use these songs…

And the Ostensible Dems here in CO living in Centristville voted for both anti trans measures.

On the flip side, the heavily financed centrist shit running for our city council at large seat, favored and endorsed by the worst of our Ostensible Dems lost handily.

News from Maryland: the big thing was Question 3, which would allow us to redraw the congressional map before the 2028 election, in response to all the Republican re-districtings in other states. Basically, it would, hopefully, allow us to eliminate our only Republican district.

It was the most controversial thing up for vote, but it seems to have passed by a 60-40 popular vote. Good for us.

Piece of shit Andy Harris sadly won reelection. But hey, if we can't get him out one way, we'll get him out another.

The three races I was most invested in were Maine, Ohio, and Michigan.

Maine: my God, it's such a relief to finally see Our Lady Of The Perpetual Furrowed Brow kicked to the curb. It should never have taken this long, but I guess Mainers really enjoyed getting taken for a ride. At least enough of them finally decided otherwise.

Ohio: I never want to expect too much from Ohio, and the fact is that Vivek making a play for the abusive parent vote was not the worst idea - Republicans have gotten very far by pandering to the worst in human nature. But apparently it wasn't enough. Good.

Michigan: that was the one I was most invested in. Islamophobia has been the respectable prejudice of the U.S. for as long as I've been politically aware (I was thirteen on 9/11), and being a member of the Great Recession generation has made me pretty damn socialist too. The extent to which the entire system freaked out at him (Democratic as well as Republican), complete with a last-minute backstab by the centrist candidate really pissed me off like nothing since Mamdani's election. So it's incredibly satisfying to watch them all get fucked.

In the words of Jed Bartlet: "thanks for trying, but here I am anyway."

I checked totals for my county this morning and was disappointed to see how heavily it still leans toward the GOP. My only comfort was that a candidate for judge named Jeffrey Rogg was defeated - if you see a photo of him, you'll note how badly he needs to learn something about grooming.
