Scott sent in a couple of AI items. First, a site that purports to show the job and wage losses due to AI in every state:

I have no idea whether this is right (and Scott was upfront that he doesn’t either), but I’ll add some anecdata: white collar young people are worried about their jobs. I’m in meetings with them regularly, and I’ve heard them make remarks about me being near retirement but they have to somehow make their way in the uncertain AI future.
The second link he sent is, well, predictable but still disgusting:
Speculative data center debt is being repackaged and sold to pension and retirement funds, university endowments, and other institutional investors in a manner eerily reminiscent of the subprime bubble. Private equity firms have purchased life insurers and loaded them with risky debt, exposing policyholders and the public to losses and raising the threat of financial contagion.
There are two issues here:
Does AI have applications and uses that make a lot of sense? Yes
Is AI completely over-hyped and part of a bubble? Absolutely
Because of (2), Democrats should be for every limitation on data center growth that comes down the pike. We’ll get all the benefits of AI with the data centers that we have now. We don’t need more of them.
