I know we’re all probably half past give a shit on the oysterman, but here’s a follow-up on Joe’s post yesterday about the ding-dongs running Platner’s campaign:
Kabas wrote a good piece on Platner, and she says that she’s going to write more about Moraff, who’s the grandson of the founder of Toys ‘R Us. Platner is being sulky and won’t officially withdraw until Monday.
This morning’s Downballot newsletter has a good round-up of the potential candidates for Platner’s seat. Some of them ran for governor and lost to Hannah Pingree: former State Senate President Troy Jackson, former state health director Nirav Shah and Secretary of State Shenna Bellows. A note on Bellows: Janet Mills isn’t the only Democrat who’s won statewide office. Another candidate is Dan Kleban, who claims he had heard positive things from the DSCC but they ghosted him as they recruited Janet Mills. Jordan Wood, who grew up in Maine and worked for Katie Porter, is also in.
The rumor is that the convention to pick Platner’s replacement will be 113 Democratic State Committee members and 500 delegates elected by county committees. This isn’t “establishment insiders” by any stretch of the imagination.
Hopefully this will be my last Platner post, but if more news comes out about his advisors, I’ll definitely share it. We need to get rid of all the crappy consultants, no matter if they’re “centrists” or “leftists”.
