More MAGA Violence
Not just ICE
Ilhan Omar is such a target of hate that I’m surprised that she had a town hall meeting, but she’s made of pretty stern stuff, and of course this happened:
At her first town hall of the year in Minneapolis, congresswoman Ilhan Omar was sprayed with an unidentified substance while making her opening remarks. Omar had just started speaking when a man sprayed her from the front row of the community center where the event is taking place in the north of the city.
The man was swiftly tackled to the ground by security, but Omar insisted on continuing the town hall despite the incident – refusing to let it stop her addressing constituents. The attacker, who did not identify a particular political affiliation when he sprayed Omar, was quickly escorted out of the room, as the crowd applauded his removal.
“I learned at a young age that you don’t give into threats,” Omar said.
Rep Maxwell Frost was attacked at Sundance a few days ago, so there’s that. Frost reports that the man who attacked him talked about “deporting his kind”.
Dealing with MAGA violence is difficult. They’re so easily triggered, and they want to hurt or kill liberals. Let’s face it: part of the reason that Alex Pretti’s murder has broken through is that he doesn’t look like the caricature of a liberal that MAGA is trained to hate. He was a white gun owner who worked with veterans. This breaks MAGA’s brains because the only people who were supposed to be marching in Minneapolis were black, brown or gay, and they certainly weren’t supposed to be carrying.
Speaking of Minneapolis, a lot of BlueSky commenters were angry with Tim Walz over this statement:
Q: The demand was to get ICE and CBP out. To replace Bovino with Tom Homan...do you think that's a satisfactory change? TIM WALZ: "I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt. ...My hope is that Tom Homan is different...that he is a true law enforcement professional."

Walz had a call with Homan yesterday. The Trump Administration is clearly trying to back down. Homan is terrible, and stupid, but he’s apparently for a more targeted form of immigration enforcement that won’t have goons wilding in the streets. Walz’ smart move is to play nice for a day or two until he sees whether Homan is gong to de-escalate and take ICE out of Minneapolis. This seems obvious to me.
