More Good Stuff from Readers

Nathan Sage, Impeachment, Shaheen on Little Marco, AOC/Bernie

Reader S sent in this video from the first Democrat in Iowa who’s announced to challenge Joni Ernst:

If we have any Iowa readers, I’d be interested in your take. Here’s a story about Sage a.k.a. John Cole’s younger doppelgänger in an Iowa politics substack.

An anonymous reader has a question about impeachment:

Is it time to begin pressuring our senators and reps to impeach the guy, to then change speaker of the house to a non maga republican, then build a case to also remove the vp who becomes president..?

So much violation of constitution.

Also, if alito is turning out to be more and more overtly anti -constitution, how does one remove a Supreme Court justice?

If s Korea could stop their coup w legal means, there must be a way for us to do so…

For my part, I recommend Senate Gabe on BlueSky if you’re interested on keeping up-to-date with impeachment. Gabe has been all-in for at least a couple of months and he tracks impeachment news and activism.

Reader J sent this piece about Marco Rubio’s “re-org” (read: gutting) of the State Department and noted that Jean Shaheen poked her head out of her gopher hole to register some concern:

Jeanne Shaheen, the top Democrat on the Senate foreign relations committee, said that she would “scrutinise” the reorganisation and that she would “hold Rubio to his pledge” to appear before the committee and engage with Congress on the future of the state department.

“Any changes to the state department and USAID must be carefully weighed with the real costs to American security and leadership,” she said. “When America retreats – as it has under President Trump – China and Russia fill the void. A strong and mission-ready state department advances American national security interests, opens up new markets for American workers and companies and promotes global peace and stability.”

Finally, reader different S sent in a piece on the Bernie/AOC tour. It’s from Axios, but this part was interesting:

Ocasio-Cortez's fundraising has surged in the first months of Trump's administration. She can use the money to help potential allies, build a bigger organization — or save for a 2028 run for president or Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's seat.

* In the first three months of 2025, she raised $9.6 million — more than double what she'd ever raised in a quarter.

* Sanders, who was just elected to his fourth six-year term, also tapped into grassroots energy to raise $11.4 million over the same period.

What Bernie’s going to do with $11.4 mil at his age is an interesting question. Since that’s an Axios piece, it has to concern troll about AOC being “too leftist” but here’s a former Clinton advisor writing in Politico saying that the AOC message is what the party needs right now. He calls her and Bernie “outdoor politicians” vs. “indoor politicians.” (I forgot who sent me that one, sorry.)

Thanks to all who sent in questions. Also, for the Tesla earnings aficionados, boy did they take a shit:

After the market closed today, Tesla released its financial results for the first quarter and confirmed that it missed expectations with earnings of $0.27 per share (non-GAAP), and it also missed revenue expectations with $19.335 billion during the last quarter.

This is a big miss for Tesla despite the company admitting to selling a lot more regulatory credits this quarter.

At $595 million in credit sales, Tesla would have lost money without it in Q1 2025. [emphasis mine]

Tesla is on the S&P 500 index, and it takes one negative earnings quarter to get de-listed, which would lead to a tremendous sell off as the Vanguards of the world dump Tesla from their S&P 500 index funds. I’m sure there are many more accounting tricks that Musk’s numbers bullshit artists can use to keep showing positive earnings, but what a terrible quarter.
