Here are the balls and strikes that were called today by the august members of the great institution venerated by all DC reporters:
Haitian and Syrian refugees can all be made to go home and die. Also, racism only happens when people with dark skin criticize white people.
Monsanto’s RoundUp killed a lot of people but, hey, they can only sue in Federal Court and only if the EPA says that RoundUp is bad, which, of course, they won’t.
A Hawaii law saying that people have to ask permission to carry guns in stores is clearly unconstitutional because bang bang, they shot me down, bang bang that awful sound, or something.
“Packing the Court” isn’t the right way to phrase it, more like “modernizing the Court”. People like a good kitchen remodel, we should do the same for the Court.
There’s also a lot of lawmaking that needs to be done that gives the Executive far less latitude in interpreting the law. This will require more work on the part of Congress, but perhaps we can elect some new members of that body who will take their responsibilities seriously, instead of thinking they’re clever when they run away from their Constitutional duties.
In addition to the terrible rulings that keep raining down from these old farts, the shitty judicial appointments made by Trump I and II are doing terrible things. For the latest example, today TPM has the convoluted story of how Ken Paxton got a Texas federal judge to do his bidding in the span of a few hours.
The latest polling I could find shows that the public is split 50/50 on expanding the Court, so this is an issue where Democrats need to lead. Do I think that will happen? Let this post from the “rapid response” social media account answer that question for me:
