Might be good news

I went to a fundraiser for Dr Amy Acton last night with my husband. Dr. Acton is running for the Dem nomination for governor of Ohio.

We arrive and I immediately spot a (retired) juvenile court judge and his spouse entering the venue. I’m very familiar with this judge - I was in front of him once or twice a month for twenty years. He’s definitely a Republican. I joke to my husband that maybe this a Ramaswamy fundraiser and we go in. VERY good turnout for rural NW Ohio - only about half these people are Democrats. We had four kids and they all went to local public schools so I spot a table of teachers, half of whom I recognize from 30 years in and around the public school.

Acton gives her bio - really inspiring, from foster care in Youngstown to med school. She’s a very good speaker - warm and effusive. She goes on to discuss the current Ohio GOP budget which slashes school and health care funding - everyone in the room seems both familiar with it and opposed to it. Her speech on how public schools saved her life is wonderful. She mentions some good polling so I look it up when I get home and sure enough, she’s w/in 5 with a 4 MOE.

Can it possibly be true that some Ohio Republicans and Independents are sick to fucking death at how corrupt this state is? They finally, finally noticed? We might have a real race!
