In case you haven’t been following this case, Miller has responded to accusations that he threw scalding water on his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, daughter of Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno, like this:
Um, this is how — they were in the “honeymoon” phase of the cycle of spousal abuse.
After taking his sweet, sweet time, Emily Moreno’s dad decided to stick up for her. Details here, but I thought Pitchbot encapsulated it:
Miller said yesterday that he’s staying in the race. To that I say: drip, drip drip.
I don’t know shit about Ohio politics, and I’m sure Kay is busy getting the vote out in Michigan, so while our resident Ohio expert is busy, I went to Wikipedia and looked it up. My friends in Christ, it is a R+5 district in the Cleveland suburbs. Completely winnable, especially in this political environment with a candidate who’s clearly in trouble. And, there’s what appears to be a decent Democratic candidate, Brian Poindexter. Though the positions on his campaign website are certainly not the product of a DSA focus group, he has been endorsed by the Working Families Party, which is a usually a good sign. Here’s his bio from the WFP endorsement:
Brian Poindexter is a father, union ironworker with Local 17 in Cleveland, apprenticeship instructor, and Brook Park City Councilman. He began working at age 15 in a machine shop while lettering in three high school sports. After years working in kitchens, factories, and the moving industry — where he earned his Class A CDL and traveled all 48 continental states — Brian joined the Ironworkers in 2007. He worked his way through the apprenticeship program while earning an Associate Degree in Applied Industrial Technology from Cuyahoga Community College. He served as a union organizer from 2012 to 2014 and has led some of the region’s most complex construction projects. Brian is the proud father of two daughters and is running for Congress because working people deserve real representation.
