This is a five minute video (couldn’t find the original, so it’s split) where Mamdani reviews how his campaign did well in working-class neighborhoods that had swung towards Trump in 2024.
In addition to Mamdani’s explanation, I thought Jamelle Bouie had a good take on why Mamdani’s campaign was successful. One interesting point: Mamdani’s willingness to propose government interventions (free bus rides, city owned and run grocery stores) made his campaign message so much simpler, since it stripped away the complexity of explaining some kind of public/private partnership (for groceries) or some complex means-tested bus fare entitlement.
Since we’re looking at the future of the Democratic Party on this blog, Mamdani’s campaign is interesting, even if some of it can’t be used directly in redder areas.
