Looking for a Decent Newspaper

Very hard to find

Unlike the author of this piece, I can believe it:

I could hardly believe it when I saw The Washington Post’s new average daily paid circulation figure that made the rounds in recent days — a number so low that I first thought it must surely be missing a digit.

97,000.

That figure comes via the Alliance for Audited Media, and it reveals that The Washington Post’s average paid daily circulation has dropped below 100,000 for the first time in 55 years. To put that in perspective: 97,000 is the sort of figure you’d expect to see from a mid-size regional paper like The Minnesota Star Tribune or The Seattle Times. Not from a globally recognized newsroom with multiple Pulitzers to its name.

The Post used to be my “just the facts” source for news articles. The opinion pages there were always bad (just like the Times), but they were the town paper for DC and had decent (if conventional) political coverage.

I’ve tried the WSJ and the way it wants to push their nutcase right wing opinion pages turns me off, as does some of their news choices. I cancelled my subscription and my access will be over at the end of the month.

I’ll probably switch to the Guardian, which has decent US coverage, even though they have the anti-trans leanings that seem to infect the Brits. As a bonus, they don’t have a paywall.

Any recommendations are welcome.
