Kathy Quinerly sent in Marisa Kabas’ great interview with a guy who made it onto Fox with a comparison of MAGA and Jonestown:
KABAS: Is Jonestown a comparison you've thought about before?
HOYLE: Absolutely. I knew about Jonestown somewhat, just like I told that story, in the late 70s. I was about 10-years-old. But I've always told people, you know, it wasn't even Kool-Aid [that Jim Jones laced with cyanide and forced his followers to drink.] It was the cheap Flavor Aid or Wyler's or something like that, and it's very microcosmic of this whole thing with Trump. He's got a cult and he's a cheapskate and he's a crook. So I've seen memes before like, the difference between Jim Jones and Trump is that Trump would charge you for the Kool-Aid before you died.
The whole thing is worth a read — the guy is a character.
Moving on to the least charismatic politician on earth, I thought that the text summary couldn’t be what JD said in response to an earnest, and good, question, but welp it is:
This is the new Ron DeSantis that Republicans and the political press are trying to make happen. AES has his number:
Moving on, we’re in the Denver area for a couple of days to vote and hang out with the kids. This was cute — they had a contest for middle-school kids to design the “I Voted” stickers:

After dropping off our mail-in ballots in a drop box because the Post Office can’t be trusted, we stopped in a restaurant for drinks and the NFL network was on. Every ad — and there were a lot of them — was a political ad. In the time we were there, it played an ad that attacked the MAGA Republican candidate for Attorney General at least twice. Jena Griswold, the current Secretary of State, is the Democrat in that race. She’s going to win, bigly, no question, against Michael Allen, currently residing in conservative El Paso County and also formerly assistant AG of Kansas. Yet, Griswold or a PAC is running multiple attack ads against him.
This is how the millions of dollars of ad money is spent — multiple ads per hour at odd hours where people probably aren’t watching. I mean, who watches the NFL Network at noon on a Thursday? Griswold, or the PAC supporting Griswold, wasn’t the only entity paying for ads. There were also ads supporting some of our dumb ballot initiatives, the vast majority of which are on the ballot because rich people paid petition gatherers to get them there.
As far as I’m concerned, they could just burn the money for the same effect. There has to be a better way. Griswold, who I didn’t vote for in the primary, is now beholden to donors who gave her money directly, or donated to a PAC, for ads she didn’t need to get elected. It’s wrong and corrupt, and the Democratic base needs to demand better.
