Is Trumpism the new Communism?

While the cover picture is satire and not real, Trump’s actions are not that different from communist authoritarian rulers of the past and current.

Let’s try a short weekend thought experiment. for those who regularly read my stuff, you know I think humor, derision and sarcasm are good ways to fight back against the lies and unpopular policies/actions of Trump, hi cronies and his complicit supporters.

I like what Jack Hopkins says here:

There’s an element of truth, too, given:

Trump Admin 2.0 is centralizing power in the Executive Branch, a hallmark of communist authoritarian regimes
Trump Admin 2.0 seems to side more often with Putin, Xi and Kim Jong Un more often than he sides with his own government
Trump Admin 2.0 is transforming the civil service from a professional bureaucracy to one professing loyalty to Dear Leader, a hallmark of communist authoritarian regimes
Trump Admin 2.0 is literally taking ownership in private corporations and picking favorites instead of letting the “market” decide, mimicking state-owned enterprises which are a hallmark of communist authoritarian regimes
Trump Admin 2.0 is using government resources and dollars to wield power against people and States he doesn’t like, a hallmark of communist authoritarian regimes
Trump Admin 2.0 is using its pwoer to intimidate, coopt and silence independent media, a hallmark of communist authoritarian regimes
Trump Admin 2.0 is seeking control over and confrontation with courts, Congress, inspectors general and independent agencies, a hallmark of communist authoritarian regimes

One big benefit of this is it may literally drive Trump more insane than he already is and truly get under his orange skin.

Messaging matters.

So - does Trumpism = Communism make sense as a message? Can it coopt Trump’s messaging? Will it catch on with the public if messaged properly?

How about all of us try to groupthink and come up with a catchy slogan that might breakout and breakthrough?

This won't work. People who were/are doing well thought of communism in economic terms along class. Communism meant worker power and they never wanted that. They still don't regardless of which major party they belong to. For most conservatives communism was a threat because of racial rights, women's rights, and it's hostility to religion.

One of the reasons for the about face on Russia is that Russia changed. Russia stopped calling us out for abusing minorities and went all in on ethno nationalism. Russia doubled down on Christianity and it's demands of strict gender and sex roles and rules against homosexuality. Russia also abandoned workers and went all in on oligarchical capitalism. China is sort of the same. Conservatives envy China. It's an ethno-national state with authoritarian power that over rides the public will for business goals. They manufacture and race ahead taking risks and damn the consequences.

Two points back at you:

seems to be that the whole communist thing here in the US (while communism is actually an economic system) was more about culture. Mccarthy used it to strike fear into conservatives not because it was an economic system, but because Soviet Union communism was really an authoritarian oligarchy in disguise.

while the Soviet Union might be an oligarchical capitalist state now, it’s still viewed by many as communist in the sense of my first point that it’s more cultural And communism came to be a catch all for totalitarianism with a veneer of caring about the masses. Plus, it’s not really fully capitalist since Putin pulls all the triggers.

Also, The vast majority of people don’t pay attention to the rest of us who argue about inside baseball stuff. To them, communism is just communism. And the idea here is not necessarily to make some type of fully logical, technically supportable accusation. It’s to throw it back in Trump and the Republicans’ face.

Still silly. Conservatives, normies, the left, and pretty much everyone who's not a liberal doesn't like liberals for completely and valid reasons. We're the spoiled brat who's also the the class rat and thinks their better than everyone. So when we start snarking and doing stuff like this it doesn't stick to our target, the rest of the class room just groans and sighs "this asshole thinks he's funny again" and gets pushed further away as we sit their smug snort laughing not realizing we are the only one that thinks it was witty.

One of my big gripes about how we politic is we aren't able to accept that we are wrong and unlikable. I know. Because doing that would require change, introspection, humility, and an ego hit and none of those are things we are capable of.

So we go into things and promptly declare we are going to win this fight by doing things this way. How do we make that happen. When the problem is us and the way went to do it. So we do it our way, we enjoy it, and then throw a fit when everyone else runs away from us and blame everyone but ourselves.

You can't win a battle when the problem is you and how you want to fight it. You're better off doing nothing and letting others fight.

Good stuff but I’m kinda serious about this folks. It’s like the taunt when we were kids - “I know you are but what am I?” That ‘s the level that will really rile up Trump and his gang.

I fear this runs afoul of the "Race Mixing = Communism" definition. That is, the popular definition of "communism" in the U.S. has never had all that much to do with economics and even less with police states - it's always been a generic slur to hurl at the Undesirables and their sympathizers. Subsidies to farmers are capitalism, but immigrants running a business is communism, etc.

The fact that communism and conservatism substantively have a hell of a lot more in common has been obvious at least as far back as when Richard Condon wrote The Manchurian Candidate back in the fifties. But that never really sank in.

No harm in trying, though.
