Howl

Took a trip to the Wolf Conservation Center for an overnight last weekend with one of my sisters, my daughter and my eldest granddaughter, who is five. I had pictured this trip as “camping in upstate NY” but it turned out very different than that. We joined a group of about 20 overnight campers at the Center, which is located in the (very tony) Westchester County area of NY. Martha Stewart has a house in the same town just to give you a sense of the surrounding area.

Great trip. The Center provides a home for a small population of Red Wolves and Mexican wolves. The wolves breed and the pups are integrated into wild packs of wolves. The Mexican wolf was nearly gone when the Center launched 20 years ago with only 16 wild individuals remaining.

Highly recommend if you have or know a child who is an animal lover - my granddaughter loved all of it but especially the fact that the wolf packs periodically howl which is shockingly loud when you’re in a tent very close to them. It must be odd for the wealthy residents surrounding the 33 acre woods where the Center is located when the nightly chorus rings out over their rolling lawns.

I’m catching up on the LA protests, listening to Hasan Piker’s take. My youngest son and his Lefty friends all listen to him. If you want an actual sense of what young people on the Left think instead of what Right leaning Gen X Democratic operatives believe young people on the Left think then I highly recommend Hasan too.
