Trump made a speech last night. I’m sure lies were told. I looked briefly at the print coverage and decided that it was just another “we’re almost there” performance, so not really worth my attention.

The important events of the day were:

  1. Mike Johnson, who had said that there’s no way that the House would pass the Senate’s bill to fund TSA and the rest of Homeland Security that isn’t ICE and CBP, is now saying he’ll bring the bill to a vote and TSA et. al. will be funded. I believe the kids call this a “cave”.

  2. Even though he made threats earlier in the day to withdraw from NATO, Trump didn’t mention it in his speech. That might be because a bill co-sponsored by his current Secretary of State, and signed by Biden, requires Senate approval to withdraw from NATO.

  3. The New York State Medical Examiner ruled the death of nearly blind refugee who was left miles from his home by CBP agents as a homicide. Sooner or later, the agents who killed Nurul Amin Shah Alam will be brought to justice, just as the ones who killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti will be.

  4. The Artemis II rocket had a successful launch on its way to the moon.

Trump sees that his approval ratings are in the toilet. Despite all his statements to the contrary, he cares a lot about his ratings. So, he went on TV to try to salvage them, but the war that he blundered into, coupled with high gas prices that aren’t going down for a long time, speaks much louder than he can.
