How to Tell if Your State Gives a Shit

Can you get the COVID vax?

In Colorado, I’m going to need a prescription for a COVID vaccination, which is nonsense:

According to CVS, the company is currently able to provide COVID-19 vaccinations in these states:
Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Washington, Wisconson and Wyoming.

In other states, including Colorado, patients can only get the updated vaccine if they have a prescription. That includes:
Arizona, Colorado, Washington D.C., Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia.

Colorado’s Governor Jared Polis has always been anti-vaxx curious, and says that he’s happy that RFK Jr is HHS secretary instead of a pharma exec. If he gave a shit, he’d order his Department of Health to do what New Mexico did:

SANTA FE, N.M. —

In response to potential federal limitations on access to the COVID-19 vaccine, the state Department of Health has issued a public health order that removes those limitations so that pharmacies can vaccinate people of all ages, including children under 6 months old, a NMDOH news release said.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration this week approved an updated version of the COVID-19 vaccine, but some pharmacies in New Mexico have said they won't be able to give the vaccine to those for whom it is not recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.

The NMDOH order states that "the currently available COVID-19 vaccines are safe and the most effective way of preventing infection, serious illness, and death." However, the USFDA approval of vaccine limits their use to those at high risk for severe disease and outcomes, not including children aged 6 months and under.

The order says NMDOH will work with the state Board of Pharmacy to remove potential barriers access to COVID-19 vaccines at pharmacies in New Mexico.

We’ll see what Polis does, but if this fucking rich man baby can’t rise to this tiny challenge, Democrats will once again face the challenge of pushing and prodding one of their electeds to do the obvious right thing. And that gets really fucking old really quick in the time of Trump.

Besides endangering the health of millions of Coloradans by making the COVID vaccine harder to get, the other issue that faces Colorado and the rest of the US is lack of hospital care. Hospitals fill up during flu season, and if there aren’t enough beds in rural hospitals, patients will be shipped to hospitals in larger cities and those will fill up. The people on social media who are saying “good, let them suffer” when they see hospitals in red rural areas close down should keep that in mind.
