While we “fight” the craziest war ever (for many reasons, but not the least of which is that it seems to stop and start weekly primarily based on the whims of a malignant narcissist, mentally ill madman), the Trump Admin has seemed to accomplish another sickening foreign policy feat.

We are now more likely to vote in the United Nations with Russia, North Korea and a few other authoritarian regimes than with the democratic world.

Here is another vote from last year on the Ukrainian/European resolution reaffirming Russia as the aggressor, demanding withdrawal, and supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity:

As you can see, we voted against the resolution along with Russia, North Korea and a few African countries.

Hard as it may be to accept (because it is actually not that hard to believe), the Trump Administration is more aligned with dictators and anti-democratic countries than it is with the “free world”.

This shows in its actions abroad - as depicted in the above charts - as well as in its actions domestically. At home it is attempting to emulate many of the countries with whom it now votes in the UN, through voter suppression (SAVE Act, intimidation and lawsuits, attempting to unconstitutionally federalize elections), police-state thuggery against its own people ("ICE), and pursuing the specious “Unitary Executive” theory (which is a euphemism for dictatorship).

For those who claim to be “originalists”, her are a few quotes from the actual OGs on their fear of someone down the road usurping power:

George Washington, Farewell Address, 1796: "...potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government."

Thomas Jefferson Letter to James Madison (1797): Jefferson emphasized that liberty depends on keeping the branches separate: "The principle of the Constitution is that of a separation of Legislative, Executive and Judiciary functions...."

James Madison at the Constitutional Convention (June 1, 1787): Mr. Madison thought it would be proper, before a choice shd. be made between a unity and a plurality in the Executive, to fix the extent of the Executive authority; that as certain powers were in their nature Executive, and must be given to that departmt. whether administered by one or more persons, a definition of their extent would assist the judgment in determining how far they might be safely entrusted to a single officer. He accordingly moved that so much of the clause before the Committee as related to the powers of the Executive shd. be struck out & that after the words “that a national Executive ought to be instituted” there be inserted the words following viz. “with power to carry into effect, the national laws, to appoint to offices in cases not otherwise provided for, and to execute such other powers ‘not Legislative nor Judiciary in their nature,’ as may from time to time be delegated by the national Legislature.”

Seems to me the lights have gone out on Reagan’s “shining city on a hill”.
