I am getting more and more frustrated that even the good journalists are not willing to say it like it is in blunt terms that “normie” people will understand.

Two examples: Greg Sargent and Jane Mayer. IMHO, they are two of the best journalists out there doing the kind of work most other journalists can only dream of emulating.

Donald Trump unleashed a raging Truth Social tirade on Friday attacking former MAGA allies who have turned on him over his threat to obliterate Iranian civilization. This is making news mostly because it was unusually deranged even by Trump’s standards: It dragged on for 482 words and ripped his foes as “Flailing Fools” and “NUT JOBS.”

But buried in Trump’s rant is some actual news.

Trump’s eruption—which singled out critics like Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Alex Jones, who have attacked the war and declared Trump’s genocidal threat disqualifying—specifically attacked Jones this way:

Bankrupt Alex Jones … says some of the dumbest things, and lost his entire fortune, as he should have, for his horrendous attack on the families of the Sandy Hook shooting victims, ridiculously claiming it was a hoax.

Wait, so Trump thinks it was “horrendous” that Jones claimed the Sandy Hook massacre was a “hoax”? That’s interesting. Because after Jones first pushed his vile conspiracy theories about the 2012 mass shooting—which took the lives of 20 children and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut—some in Newtown publicly called on then-president Trump in 2017 to condemn Jones’s conspiracy theorizing about it. And they say it never happened.

And Sargent ends with this:

“It’s too bad that it takes something actually happening to the president to make him feel empathy for this community,” added Michelle Embree Ku, a Newtown resident and school board member at the time.

The perversity here runs deep. In describing Trump as unfit for the presidency over his threat to wipe out Iranian civilization, Jones actually got something right, as did Trump’s other critics. But rather than simply climb down from this monumentally deranged vow to commit massive war crimes and murder tens of millions, Trump is able to perceive criticism of this only as an intolerable display of personal disloyalty to him. Incredibly, that’s what it took to get Trump to denounce Jones and, by extension, fully recognize, well over a decade too late, the horrors that the people of Newtown endured.

On Bluesky, Sargent says Trump’s condemnation of Jones seemed “odd”:

In his tirade against MAGA war critics, Trump blasted Alex Jones for calling Sandy Hook a hoax. This seemed odd. So I went back and checked. At the time Trump hailed Jones as "amazing" and rebuffed demands that he denounce lies about the shooting. New from me: newrepublic.com/article/2089...

Now, on to Jane Mayer. Aaron Rupar posted the video of Trump insanely claiming his “Jesus” Truth Social post was him as a “doctor”:

Q: Did you post that picture of yourself depicted as Jesus Christ? TRUMP: I did post it and I thought it was me as a doctor and had to do Red Cross. Only the fake news could come up with that one.

In response, Mayer posted this:

It’s a special talent to say something this comical and keep a straight face.

I wish I had half the talent Greg Sargent and Jane Mayer have in their pinkies alone. And yet, they write about Trump as if he is making rational decisions. Sargent thinks it is “odd” that Trump now goes after Jones for Sandy Hook. Sargent even chooses to use a quote from a former Newtown School Board member that ascribes “empathy” to Trump: “It’s too bad that it takes something actually happening to the president to make him feel empathy for this community,” Mayer writes that Trump must have a special talent to say what eh says with a straight face.

She may be right that Trump is special, just not in the way she mentions. He is literally a mentally ill malignant narcissist. And a pathological liar.

But here’s the thing. He is a pathological liar because HE HAS TO BE. He is a prisoner of his mental illness. He’ll do and say whatever his lizard brain tells him he needs to in order to survive, stay one step ahead of the gathering storm he leaves behind him every day, and get the attention he involuntarily craves.

Trump has zero empathy (an ability he does not possess) for the Sandy Hook kids and families. He is simply lashing out at and trying to destroy Alex Jones who he feels has betrayed him and this is the way his brain tells him he can succeed. He originally supported Jones’ lies because Jones supported him. It’s that basic.

Likewise, Trump does not believe he is saying something “comical” about his “Jesus” Truth Social post. Again, his lizard brain compels him to say what he said in order to sate the madness corrupting his brain. It’s actually why he’s able to do it with a straight face. Because deep down he has to believe his lies or the cognitive dissonance will destroy him. He’ll say the exact opposite of what he said mere hours or days earlier - with complete authentic belief - if that’s what his brain thinks he needs to say.

Riley Gaines, the fifth-place swimmer turned anti-trans activist and Trump worshipper, questioned Trump’s blasphemy on X. How did Trump respond to someone he previously showered praise upon?

President Trump says he’s not a fan of Riley Gaines.

Of course he’s not. She seemed to turn on him (later, like a good cultist, she tried to backtrack) and whatever he had previously said about her no longer mattered. His damaged brain told him to attack and destroy, and so he dutifully complied.

Trump is a convicted felon and adjudicated rapist. He is mentally unwell and unfit to serve as President of the United States.

Here is someone (a professional psychiatrist) telling it like it is:

Here's a clip: TRUMP IS ABERRANT. I'm no public speaker. I thought it was important. We're releasing UNFIT TOO before midterms, to say things not said elsewhere. We're asking for support. To invest: wefunder.com/unfittoo To donate any amount: unfitfilm.allyrafundraising.com/campaigns/14... Thx!

The Shallow State (@ourshallowstate.bsky.social) 2026-04-13T23:14:27.649Z

Whatever you think of George Conway, he also tells it like it is.

Every single response to anything Trump says or does needs to start with, “Well, he’s mentally unwell and unfit to be President of the United States. He lies like he breathes.” I would also add, “And on top of that, he is the first convicted felon and adjudicated rapist to ever be in the position of President.”

Every. Single. Time.

Legacy media has simply not been up to the task of holding Trump to account for who he really is. Mayer and Sargent are among the best. But even they treat Trump - at least at times - as if there is a rational method behind the madness (a madness that they don’t mention enough). There is a method, but it is rooted in the madness, not behind it.

Let’s follow the example of Shallow State and his peers. Let’s tell it like it is.

Every. Single. Time.
