Greenland makes special hat for JD and Usha Vance

I spend a lot of time in Denmark so I was tempted to write about the JD and Usha Vance threats to that country this week, but I’m glad I waited. Greenlanders and Danes did a great job defending against the belligerent US far Right, so it went better than I expected. By “better” I mean worse for JD and Usha.

The original plan was Usha Vance and one of the Vance children (acting as a human shield) would go to Greenland and lecture Greenlanders on how much they suck. They sent some low quality Trump hires out to Greenland ahead of time to pressure Greenlanders into pretending to welcome Mrs. Vance but no sale – not one Greenlander would go along with Usha’s demands. A firm but clear message, right? “Don’t come here, you warmongering, arrogant asshole”. Seeing that Usha still wasn’t getting the hint, Greenlanders made a special hat in her honor.

Sensing a political disaster, the Trump Administration plans were hastily changed and JD Vance was added to the invasion team.

The final trip ended up as three hours on a US base in Greenland, where the Vances could threaten Greenland and Denmark safely, surrounded by US soldiers.

A planned visit to Greenland this week to be led by second lady Usha Vance was originally presented as a feel-good event to celebrate Greenlandic culture. Instead, it is stirring anger and anxiety—and testing already strained relations between the U.S. and European allies. And that was before Vice President JD Vance announced that he would be joining his wife on the trip.

The U.S. has now shifted the visit’s focus to national security even as both Danish and Greenlandic officials have insisted they see the uninvited trip as a provocation. Instead of taking in a dogsled race as originally scheduled, the Vances will be visiting American soldiers at a U.S. military base, far from any large settlement of civilian Greenlanders, White House officials said Tuesday.

The Vice President and the Second Lady, despite having extremely expensive private educations, are ignorant and uninformed on both Denmark and Greenland but that’s to be expected of the Ugly American face they show to the rest of the world.

They don’t know, for example, that Greenland and Denmark have had a treaty relationship since 1320, or that Denmark has only 6 million people but is home to three hugely successful multinational companies - Denmarks AP Moeller-Maersk is the largest shippoing company in the world, Novo Nordisk is an innovative pharma company known for Ozempic, and of course Lego - a hugely profitable privately held company that is one of the world’s best places to work.

All that and universal health care, universal free education and one of the least corrupt governments in the world. Maybe Greenland and Denmark should be lecturing the arrogant Vance family.
