Rumor has it Trump will give a speech tonight to promote his twisted view that the 2020 election (yes - that one that occurred over 5 ½ years ago) was “rigged”, that there was foreign interference, and that he’ll specifically take aim at Georgia.
It’s a two-pronged attack. First, it is an attempt to satiate his lizard brain that cannot accept defeat or rejection. Second, it’s a pretext for taking action to disrupt, corrupt and steal the 2026 election that he fears will result in - yep, defeat and rejection.
Let’s take a quick walk down memory lane to review the 2020 election.
Change in Vote Count from 2016-2020. In the 2016 election, Trump got 62,984, 828 votes which equaled 46.09% of the voting electorate that year (Hillary outpolled Trump, getting 65,853,514 equal to 48.18%). In 2020, after being exposed to the electorate for 4 years as President, Trump got 74,223,975 votes which equaled 46.85% of the voting electorate (Biden outpolled Trump, getting 81,283,501 equal to 51.31%). Trump’s percentage of the voting remain relatively constant from 2016 to 2020.
Directly asking for Vote Tampering in Georgia. On January 2, 2021, Trump called Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger and told him, “The people of Georgia know that this was a scam, and because of what you’ve done to the president, a lot of people aren’t going out to vote [in the runoffs]. A lot of Republicans are going to vote negative because they hate what you did to the president.” this was followed up by the infamous line, “All I want to do is this: I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have, because we won the state. Flipping the state is a great testament to our country; it’s a testament that they can admit to a mistake. A lot of people think it wasn’t a mistake, it was much more criminal than that. But it’s a big problem in Georgia and it’s not a problem that’s going away.”
Legal Actions by Trump to Overturn 2020 Election Failed Miserably. Trump and his team lost 61 of 62 lawsuits related to the 2020 election, ruled on by both Democrat-appointed and Republican-appointed judges (including judges appointed by Trump).
Trump’s Team Did a Research Report that Contradicted Trump’s Specious Claims. Per the Brennan Center, “The Trump campaign itself disproved these claims. A research report that it commissioned (but kept secret) identified only 23 “potential” episodes of people impersonating dead voters throughout the state. Georgia’s official investigation found four.”
The Washington Post Also Reported on Trump’s BS. “A report commissioned by the former president’s campaign and obtained by The Post did not back up his claims of fraud and did not provide evidence to overturn the 2020 election”
There was Significant Ticket Splitting in States Biden Won. In 2020, 63 Republican U.S. House candidates won election in states Biden won.
Here’s some more relevant information on voting in the Unted States:
Voting is administered county by county. There are 3,143 counties in the United States. This makes it nearly impossible to have any mass coordinated in-person voter fraud in the U.S.
Voting fraud is a felony federally and can result in 5 years or more in prison and steep financial penalties. There is literally no incentive for individuals to commit voter fraud for only one vote. 52 U.S.C. § 10307 covers knowingly providing false information to register or vote, voting more than once in a federal election, and paying or accepting payment for voting, with penalties up to 5 years in prison, a fine of up to $10,000, or both. 52 U.S.C. § 20511 covers knowingly submitting fraudulent voter registrations or fraudulent ballots in federal elections, and certain forms of voter intimidation, with penalties up to 5 years in prison, a fine under federal law, or both.
The Brennan Center has exhaustively refuted the voter fraud myth.
Finally, a few simple points and questions that Democrats (and the media) should bring up and rhetorically ask every time they have a chance - especially with legacy media outlets:
Obama was President when Trump was elected in 2016. Biden was President when Trump was elected in 2024. According to Trump, those elections were legit. Trump was President when Bidenw as elected in 2020 - how is it that this election was the only one that was rigged?
If the election in 202 was rigged, why didn’t Democrats rig any other House and Senate federal races?
Again, Trump was President during the 2020 election. If he claims “foreign interference”, it happened on his watch. Could this be possible?
Trump has at times blamed January 6 on Democrats, ANTIFA and even FBI infiltration. Yet, again, Trump was President on January 6, 2021. Why would Democrats and ANTIFA try to overthrow an election when their candidate won? Why would the FBI - run by a Trump appointee - infiltrate and promote an insurrection - unless they actually wanted to keep Trump on power?
If anyone with a working brain takes about two seconds to ponder Trump’s statements and accusations, they make absolutely no sense. None.
Let’s let Georgia Senator Ralph Warnock have the (almost) last words:
Democrats need to pre-rebuttal this all day today and post-rebuttal this - loudly and proudly in any and every venue - from here to election day in 2026. Plain language, plain truth. repeated over and over and over and over. No matter the topic, every politician and elected and person representing the Democratic party should open with “It’s all about corruption and a Trump’s sick mind. He’s spending his time trying to salve his ego instead of making healthcare and gas and groceries affordable." Then repeat Warnock’s words before getting into the subject matter at hand.
