Find Someone Who Loves You As Much As Republicans Hate Paying Taxes

As readers know, I think politics are pretty simple, in general. And one simple fact about politics is that not only do Republicans hate paying taxes, they think taxation is theft and they’ll do anything (including voting for Trump) as long as they believe their taxes won’t be raised. Case in point:
Jim Justice, the Republican US senator, and his wife have agreed to pay more than $5m that the couple owes in back taxes shortly after they were sued over the 16-year-old debt by the federal government.
The lawsuit, filed on Monday in federal court in their home state of West Virginia, maintained that the Justices had received notice from the US treasury department of the funds due since 2009 but had “neglected or refused to make full payment of those assessments”.
The suit demanded that Jim and Cathy Justice – a member of West Virginia’s state board of education – pay back the balance of nearly $5.2m along with any other relief that the court deemed “just and proper”.
A separate filing later on Monday said the US justice department had struck a settlement with the political couple, who agreed to satisfy the full amount “plus statutory interest and other additions to tax accruing thereafter”. The agreement was pending a judge’s approval.
I hate doing taxes and I don’t especially like paying them. I also don’t like going to the dentist, brushing, flossing, watching my diet and drinking fewer cocktails that I’d like. But I want decent government services, I want the poor to be taken care of, I want my teeth to stay in my head, and I don’t want to get diabetes and die of liver failure. So, as a mature adult, I accept the burdens of being a citizen and watching my health. To do otherwise would be childish.
