Dersh

So I didn’t get a chance to post about this numpty being treated extremely well by the cops on Martha’s Vineyard, after he’s making a federal case about not being served by a pierogie vendor there. The video is the kind of thing that I think we can all agree is how someone who tweets the following should be treated:

(This is typical of his slimy way of arguing — Romeo and Juliet exceptions are about young people close in age. He’s making a general point about fucking 16 year-olds. Similarly, if I recall the video correctly, he tries to muddy the distinction between the vendor not serving him, as a reprehensible person, versus him as someone who’s a member of the Jewish faith or some other protected class.)

I marked this “humor” but maybe I should have marked it “old white men are having real problems nowadays”. I witnessed a Dersh-like event, without the police involvement, at an office store the other day. This guy who looked to be in his 60s wanted to have copies made. However, it was Saturday morning and the place was staffed by two obviously incompetent young guys who were totally out of fucks to give. I was printing an Amazon return label and he asked me what I did, and he was kind of unpleasant and clearly frustrated. He complained about his wait for service (20 minutes, don’t know why he didn’t leave) When I tried to explain how the printer/copier worked, he got stuck on the fact that you had to pre-authorize your credit card for some amount of money. He didn’t understand “authorize” vs “pay”. He wasn’t really listening to me anyway. He was just looking for someone to validate his anger, which I wouldn’t do. He finally left in a huff the minute that one of the guys came over to the copy center and told him it was self-serve.

Basically, he wanted the world to work one way, and when it didn’t, his privilege overtook his flexibility. Same with Dersh, but he’s about 100X worse, since he thinks that he got away, legally, without understanding that people think he’s a gross perv who shouldn’t have gotten away. Living a pierogie-free life is nothing compared to the hell that he put Virginia Giuffre through.
