I just want to point and laugh about the Clarity Act, the multi-year effort by the crypto bros to try to get crypto regulated like it’s a legitimate thing rather than the currency of theft and corruption. Welp, apparently because Republicans decided that they wouldn’t put in language that would keep Trump and his family from making bank on crypto, Democrats united with Josh Hawley and Jerry Moran in a 50-49 vote to deny cloture, effectively killing the bill for this session (Coons was absent):

Negotiators for the two political parties had hashed out more than 600 pages of legislative compromise, but a few final sections of the bill — such as the ethics provisions meant to curtail senior government officials from maintaining crypto business ties — turned out to feature insurmountable rifts. And the closer the process dragged toward the elections, the more likely it was that political pressures would get in the way of a bipartisan deal.

Even Gillibrand and Gallego voted against. I wonder if this means that Gillibrand’s son won’t get to keep the money that he got to start his own crypto exchange? Also, guys, let’s share a moment of sadness with Gallego:

“The compromise we had was a good ethics compromise that would have bought a lot of Dem votes,” said Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., a key Democratic negotiator, before the vote. Gallego charges Republicans with caring “more about making sure the president keeps making money than actually bringing regulations” and consequently “failing the whole system.”

That motherfucker should be sending prayers to the Virgin of Guadalupe for her intercession keeping him from making a vote that he would almost certainly regret later, when crypto inevitably completely shits the bed. (I’d argue that it certainly has lost most of its luster lately, but apparently a bribed Senator like Gallego stays bought.)

Moving on to never Trumpers, Jen Rubin is one of the better ones, but this:

“Let’s celebrate the tsunami that killed thousands not killing hundreds more.” “Let’s celebrate Jeffrey Dahmer because of the victims who escaped before he killed them.”

What kind of over-educated fool do you need to be to celebrate what’s clearly a political, strategic decision by the Supremes not to be on the hook for totally fucking up the 2026 election. The finest legal minds of the Federalist Society are hard at work cooking up a scheme to fuck the 2028 election, one that will get the Supreme Court’s approval, so let’s just put our sparklers, confetti and champagne on the shelf for now.
