Not sure how fellow Reverse Pyromania writers Kay and Mister Mix feel about it, but there’s sooo much malfeasance and utter corruption taking place daily that every time I sit down to write something, I’m tempted by 18 other events/issues.
So, this morning, I invite you to choose which issue you’d like be the catalyst for your anger/acid indigestion/tuning out/taking action. In my view, the three worst people on this planet are: Trump, Netanyahu and Musk (honorable mention to RFK Jr. - he wouldn’t want to be left of the All-Evil team). They all have a starring turn in today’s column.
I. This is Why We Can’t Have Billionaires
I can’t believe I’m screenshotting Glenn Greenwald, but, hey, stopped clock, right?

There’s no way anyone can convince me that this wasn’t a planned media coup by someone with money to burn (approx. $250 billion, by most estimates) and a corrupt foreign leader. Ellison himself (and his nepo-baby son David) will control a significant share of the legacy media, as well as a major player in social media. given the media’s special 1st Amendment protection, this literally should be against the law.
Wait! What’s that you say? There were laws/regulations doing just that?
es, there used to be stronger restrictions on media ownership:
From the 1940s onward the FCC placed limits on ownership of multiple broadcast stations?
In 1970 the FCC placed limits on radio-TV cross-ownership?
In 1975 the FCC banned owning a daily newspaper and broadcast station in the same market?
Cool! Wait! What happened?
Starting around 1996 going forward there was periodic deregulation under the Telecommunications Act of 1996 that required the FCC to review and potentially relax ownership rules?
Between 2017–2021 several longstanding cross-ownership restrictions were repealed and the changes survived Supreme Court review?
Oh well. It was a good run while it lasted. I’m going to go turn on the TV to watch CNN while scrolling through Tik Tok while waiting for Pro Football to start again on Paramount…

II. Lying as a Political Strategy (Not Just a Tactic)
The ever-execrable Stave Scalise (even a near death shooting at a congressional softball game hasn’t made him a better person). Props to him for having the strength to maintain his dickishness after what for most would be a life-altering event.
In comment on a recent post, I wrote about Stephen Miller’s bald-faced lies. If only we had media that would call this exactly what it is (Oh! I guess I need to reread I. above 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️). BTW, love this headline from the always reliable New York Times:
Trump Previews Fall Strategy With Baseless Claims of California Vote Fraud
The president is using the slow count of mail ballots in California to renew his effort to cast doubt on election outcomes he doesn’t like, despite a lack of evidence of any widespread fraud.
The article actually isn’t half bad. However, the headline? “Baseless Claims” - they would have used less ink just to call it what it is: “Lies”.

III. Let’s DOGE the Beef Industry into Oblivion
Congressman Jim McGovern is on it:
Screw screwworms. Which are not actually worms, but the larvae of a certain fly that feeds on the living tissue of mammals, especially cattle (but ANY mammal will do in a pinch). Believe it or not, we had figured out how to stop them: by studying the fly’s mating habits and creating sterile male fly’s by the billions and then releasing them to mate with females who then couldn’t reproduce. Genius. Except for those super-genius DOGE folks who cut the spending for the program. Anti-Genius!

IV. How Does Someone Get a Job Around Here?
The grift that keeps on giving. Remember, when you don’t believe in the mission of the organization, the organization becomes a piggy bank for you, your family, your friends and your cronies. Especially when that organization is the largest (financially) in the history of the world.
Hey! I need a job…

V. Why Pay Less When You can Pay… More?!
I get it. I‘m tired of Medicare, my Medicare Supplemental and my Medicare Part D drug insurer basically paying for all my medical expense with only a $283 deductible and minimal drug co-pays. Where do I sign up for Trump Rx so I can pay more?

Let’s end…
VI. What’s That in the Sky? It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! No - it’s SupermanSpaceX
The con goes on. By all accounts, SpaceX is worth its expected valuation of $1.75 trillion when it goes public this week if it can do three simple things:
Launch thousands of data centers into space and operate them profitably
Colonize Mars with at least a million people
Becoem the dominant force in AI (not just her, but across the galaxy)
No prob. After all, Elon Muskovite has delivered on his promise of Full Self Driving for Tesla by 2018, his promise of a million Robotaxis by 2020, and humans on Mars by the mid-2020s (is 2026 considered “mid”?). By some accounts, when The Muskman promises - he delivers (if by delivering, you consider an accuracy rate of 3.2% a success). Yet, a shit ton of insiders will become ungodly rich riding the back of one of the world’s two greatest conmen (you know who the other one is, right?)
