Be careful out there

I’m meeting with my local opposition group today. I’m starting to look forward to the meetings – great group.

We decided to take AOC’s advice and make calls to Congress to oppose Medicaid cuts during the meeting.

Republicans in Congress are currently considering a budget package that would include devastating cuts to Medicaid. From March 28 to April 14, Data for Progress conducted a series of surveys to assess voters’ attitudes toward Medicaid funding levels. Nationwide, 50% of voters want Congress to increase funding for Medicaid, 38% want funding to be kept as it is, and 8% want to cut funding.

The model finds that in every congressional district in the U.S., less than 15% of voters support cuts to Medicaid. This same pattern is true for HCBS funding.

The map below displays the percentage of voters in each congressional district who believe Medicaid funding should be cut and the percentage who believe HCBS funding should be cut (you can view each by using the dropdown menu below).

Support for cutting Medicaid in my district is at 9%. Nine.

The group asked me if I would research and then advise on their rights regarding refusing a search of their phones by CBP/ICE w/in 100 miles of a border in case they’re detained by masked thugs who work for Donald Trump Good question!

Hasan Piker, a popular Turkish American political commentator known for criticizing President Donald Trump, says he was detained and interrogated by federal agents after landing at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport over the weekend.

Piker, who lives in Los Angeles and was raised in Turkey, says he isn’t backing down. "I’m not intimidated," he said in his video. "I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing." He has more than 1.6 million YouTube subscribers and remains one of the most prominent progressive voices in online political commentary.

The ACLU has an excellent rundown on this which I will rely on in the discussion with the group.
