Bad signs

When I was in law school I would verbally spar with one particular Right wing student. One time in a hissy fit of frustration he said “you’re the kind of person who tacks signs onto telephone poles”. This made me laugh, his disgust at the chaotic nature of both protest and also me as a person. I think about him every time I read someone whining about how protestors never protest correctly. I later found out his mother was a religious extremist who homeschooled him and he resented not going to high school, so we had a decent conversation about that. I wonder if he’s still a Republican. Republicans are fucking crazy - I would think they would offend his sense of order.
I had a family event in Kalamazoo, Michigan this weekend. My husband and I ducked out for a bit and attended the Kalamazoo protest (photo up top). It was wonderful - very well attended - but while we were there a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband were assassinated by a Right wing activist and another lawmaker and his wife were injured.
That just chilled me to the bone. I thought about how we had lined the street on both sides for probably a quarter of a mile during the protest and how easy it would be for a Right wing terrorist to drive by and mow us down. I don’t know how to stay safe protesting - this country is awash in weapons and Right wing nuts and we’re all just sitting ducks out there. It isn’t going to stop me but it is true.
