What if there were energy sources that actually increased our national security instead of making us more vulnerable?

What if there were energy sources that were not so capital intensive that they led to oligarchic and monopolistic practices by mega-corporations?

What if there were energy sources that could be scaled down to become available and affordable to individual homeowners, giving Americans more freedom to choose their desired energy supply (that’s real "FREEDOM”)?

What if there were clean energy sources that, when coupled with ever more efficient storage (battery) technology, made them as reliable as traditional dirty energy sources?

What if there were energy sources that were infinitely available and didn’t pollute the planet?

We have beautiful wind turbines on lots of mountaintops hereabouts. Big pinwheels all in a row. I love them, I think they add to the scenic beauty, as well as because sharp stick in Dotard"s eye.

Offshore wind & wave energy is amazing too.

I moved to a rural, agricultural town and found out when I went to vote that we have a moratorium on large solar arrays in my town. I’ve since asked around and heard a lot of farmers that think the government encouraged them to use the sludge compost in order to poison their lands so they could be used for solar. Yes, the sludge compost caused an environmental catastrophe with PFAS contamination, but the leap to it was a conspiracy by the government and big solar is off the rails. I don’t know how we rebuild trust but we have to figure it out somehow.

House rooftop solar, or rather ground arrays on undeveloped land? There are vast fields of solar in AZ at least. But, no water, so not much conflict.

For rural people banning solar is an insane self-own. Rural wind and PV off the grid power has been a thing for 40 years. We went on a tour of maybe 20 OTG houses in N. AZ around about 1996 and there were some pretty sophisticated setups that made me envious.

A bunch of my neighbors with "extra" land have ground solar arrays surrounded by bushes and landscaping, a lot have rooftop solar, and Bucknell built a big solar array tucked in where it isn't vusuallyobtrusive.

Turns out sometime in July really was going to be the point at which oil prices increased vertically and somehow reality got jammed through to Trump's dementia addled brain. Think about how bad it was going to be for that to happen: reality actually forcing Trump to do something he didn't want to do. Anything! The thing is, I'm not convinced anything actually did happen. Right now MAGA can broadcast "no big deal, none of that shit in the MOU (detailing the massive unconditional surrender) matters", until a month or two from now when it does matter, again, just like last time, again and again and again. The MAGA reality TV political shit show is having some combustion based reactions to contact with actual reality. Obvs Iran knows the midterms are coming up and the MAGA gamble here is: since the low info marginal voters are abject morons they will have forgotten all this by then so we're good. But, a lot of very difficult problems just have to disappear. Not likely!

You say that like it isn't going to happen now. I think we're likely to see a further runup in gas prices because a lot of production capacity has been destroyed, and it takes time to rebuild. (I heard one ME expert commenting that repair work might not even start for a couple of months because people aren't sure the peace will hold yet.)

We're not going to get back to pre-war capacity for a long time, even if the "deal" holds--which I'd say is a 50/50 proposition. Probably less than that if Iran is serious about protecting Lebanon.

At this point I don't think the Ds even need to enact financial incentives for renewables to completely take over many markets. Get rid of the tariffs and let the market rip. SOH and UKR refinery bombers are outstanding marketing devices. I'll keep my gas stove and family tractor for fit for purpose reasons but everything else will be replaced with renewable energy devices. It's 104F everyday here in Tucson and I'm still building credit with the electric utility. Looking at heat pump water heaters next. Everybody I know with EVs are smug little shits rn. I am so happy for them.
