I’m writing this from a place where the trials and tribulations of the world don’t seem to matter other than the surf report and cerveza. It’s amazing a slower pace and less available internet change sone’s perspective.

That being said, I’m a creature of western culture, so a quick post before I hit the water.

Seemingly totally unrelated, right?

We tend to focus on the venality and incompetence of Trump and his cronies, and for god reason. But there is another less discussed aspect of this regime - somewhat related to incompetence but not quite the same.

These people are rank amateurs.

They don’t know nothing ‘bout history, they don’t know nothing ‘bout geography. they don’t nothing ‘bout building coalitions or the impact of their words/actions, even on their own supporters.

And they don’t care.

In the short term, this leads to all sorts of problems - with allies, with wars, with the economy, etc.

However, IMHO, this will be their downfall. Running a war, dealing with allies, running an economy, and overseeing a country of roughly 350 million people takes skill and professionalism. Something these people don’t have.

Because these people are rank amateurs. At everything. Except maybe ideological belief and corruption (and one could argue they are even bad at those two things).

We may hate bureaucracy and “politics”, but there is a reason they’ve grown the way they have (even if they can get calcified and a bit out of control at times).

Trump 2.0 will eventually collapse on itself.
