The minor news from last night is that Graham Platner won, easily, of course. As did Lindsay Graham. But here’s the important news:

Republican firebrand Rep. Nancy Mace lost her GOP primary for South Carolina governor, potentially ending her rollercoaster political career.

Mace failed to advance to a runoff Tuesday. She was considered a top contender in the race until a series of scandals cut into her in-state support and she bucked President Donald Trump to help release the Jeffrey Epstein files.

I used Politico as a source because they put “firebrand” in the lede. Not “mentally ill.” Not “horrible transphobe." Not “someone who used the cover of the Speech and Debate clause to accuse four men of rape, and to accuse her rival in the governor’s race of not prosecuting them.”

There are a lot of horrible Republicans in DC, but Mace is one of the worst. She’s the one who throws around the term “tranny” at will. She introduced a bill that would keep transgender Rep Sarah McBride from using the bathroom in the House.

Mace gave up her seat in the House to run, and Trump endorsed one of her opponents (who won), so maybe she’ll defy Johnson and Trump in her last few months in the House. After that, she’s off to collect her wingnut welfare, but she won’t be around to be a horrible human being. One less nutty main character in DC. Good.

If you want to read a little bit about Sarah McBride, this is an interesting profile in Washingtonian Magazine. I don’t know if I agree with her quiet progress strategy, but she’s certainly a smart and canny politician.
