A Bridge Too Far for Polis

A somewhat entertaining and enlightening moment for a supposed libertarian

Jared Polis is in his last term as Colorado Governor and he decided that he wanted to spend almost $30 million for this:

That snaking walkway is the computer-rendered addition that he was advocating. Nobody wanted it. It was stupid. Influential news anchor Kyle Clark roasted it. Yet, Polis persisted. He, a supposed small-government libertarian, wanted his monument, so he launched an online public poll to gauge support for it. 94% of respondents opposed it.

So, RIP bridge to nowhere and the $1.5 million spent to study it and produce fancy renderings. Then, he posted this:

So this yutz, this maroon, wanted a stupid walkway and now he’s, what, throwing a pout? Acting out in public? I don’t get it. If only the energy on display here went into finding money for Colorado public schools, which are currently being funded by stealing from the road funds.

This guy is deeply weird in the way that almost every rich middle-aged white dude is odd. They think every idea coming out of their tiny little brains is gold, especially if everyone else is against it. They’re like the physical embodiment of that Gershwin song: “They all Laughed at Christopher Columbus when he thought the world was round … but oh ho ho, who has the last laugh now?” Nevermind the hundreds of others who thought the world was round, set off on voyages, and sank, never to be heard of again. Life is rarely as they imagine it: “Genius has great idea → Genius perseveres in the face of universal doubt → Genius is celebrated by all.” There’s a hell of a lot of luck and stupid ideas that are discarded along the way.

The fact that Polis spent so much time and effort on this stupid idea is disqualifying, and I hope he sinks into well-deserved obscurity when his term is over. Anyway, here’s Sarah Vaughn singing the theme song for mediocre rich white dudes:
