I volunteered for Abdul’s campaign and those of you who read my manic comments (sorry - I get riled up) may have seen I kept noticing the strangest thing. What I saw was an actual Jewish person, Elissa Slotkin, quietly campaigning for Abdul and seemingly enjoying the work instead of running to CNN or Fox or NBC to push an agenda dividing Muslims, Jewish and black people in Michigan. Obama? Same thing. Obama actually drew a comparison between the vicious racism he experienced from media, Republicans and some Democrats and what Abdul El-Sayed experienced for the last 18 months. Hmmm, I’m thinking. This looks like we’re… getting along? But media (including social media) were telling me all about racial and ethnic and religious divisions in Michigan - according to NY media, Detroit and environs were a kind of battlefield where warring tribes were locked in battle! I didn’t see any of that. Because they invented most of it.

I also volunteered for Slotkin in her senate race and one of the reasons I volunteered for Slotkin is because she’s smart and sensible and a straight shooter. Her agenda is to serve Michigan as an out and proud Right leaning Democrat, and as a Left-leaning Democrat I have no problem with that - it’s a big tent. . She’s also (famously) “data driven” in her campaigns so she was probably looking at numbers that told her normal Jewish Michigan voters are NOT actually terrified of brown Muslims - unsurprising to a Michigander like Slotkin since Jewish people and Muslim people live in close proximity in the Detroit area, have for 100 years, and get along just fine.

So ask yourself. Who benefits when scumbags like these two losers attempt to demonize and divide along racial, religious and ethnic lines? What’s the angle here? They want something, right? They want wars in the ME that never end or they want to get paid by one or another lobbying group or they want to be the most popular shits stirrer on cable news or (my own belief) they want to retain the status quo that benefits them. Not Jewish people. Not black people. Not Muslim people, and certainly not Detroit or Michigan. Themselves.

The best reason for occasionally getting off the internet and getting involved in a campaign is you see these dividers and haters for what they are - slimy, self serving opportunists. They’re not serious people and this country is in real trouble - we need serious people.

Michigan rejected them. You don’t have to accept them either when they parachute in to profit off splitting us into battling tribes. We’re all better than that. We’re better than them, too.
